But here’s the truth — SUPPLIER DIVERSITY/INCLUSION IS NOT DEAD.
Yes, it’s changing. It might look different moving forward.
But change isn’t always a bad thing — it’s growth.

💪 Think of it like hitting the gym — the first few workouts might hurt (a lot), but that’s how we build strength, endurance, and resilience. The same goes for supplier inclusion — we’re flexing new muscles, getting stronger, and redefining what success looks like.

In honor of Black History Month, we shine a light on Jireh Family Farm, a beacon of resilience and innovation in Durham, North Carolina.

Founded by Immanuel and Valarie Jarvis, this family-owned farm exemplifies the enduring legacy and vital contributions of Black farmers to our nation’s agricultural landscape.

Historically, Black farmers have been instrumental in feeding communities and sustaining local economies. In 1920, there were approximately 925,708 Black farmers in the United States; however, by 2000, this number had dramatically decreased to about 18,000.

Despite these challenges, Black farmers like the Jarvis family continue to persevere, enriching our food systems and championing sustainable practices.

Immanuel and Valarie bring a unique blend of expertise to Jireh Family Farm. Immanuel, with a background in sales management and digital marketing, has propelled the farm’s growth through strategic online engagement and customer outreach. Valarie, a third-generation farmer and registered nurse, applies her knowledge of animal health and herbal medicine to promote holistic farming methods.

Together, they have raised and sold over 1,900 hand-processed chickens in just four years, expanding their offerings to include USDA-certified pork, Angus beef, and goat meat.

The Jarvis family’s commitment extends beyond cultivation; they are passionate educators, sharing their journey and insights through speaking engagements and community workshops. Their efforts not only provide high-quality, locally sourced meats but also inspire others to embrace homesteading and sustainable agriculture.
