Additional charges have now been filed against Kenneth and Elba Vazquez in connection with the death investigation of 11-year-old Oaklynn Vazquez.

The new charges come on top of both parents previously being charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony.

According to updated court records, prosecutors have now added the following charges against both parents:

• Conspiracy to commit neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony
• Aggravated battery resulting in death, a Level 1 felony
• Criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony
• Neglect of a dependent, a Level 5 felony
• Neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 felony

Kenneth and Elba Vazquez both remain held in the Hendricks County Jail on $1 million bonds as the case continues through the court system.

Several fire companies from Avon and Brownsburg responded to reports of smoke coming from a third floor unit at Legacy Park Apartments near S Green St and Northfield Dr in Brownsburg around 4:30 p.m. today.

It was determined the smoke was caused by an issue with an HVAC unit and was isolated to a single residence.

More from the scene at US 36 and Mission Dr., just west of High School Rd., where a serious three vehicle accident has closed Rockville Rd. in both directions. Avon Fire is on scene assisting Wayne Township crews. There is no information on injuries at this time, although multiple medics were dispatched to the scene.

Nine more drivers made the choice to get behind the wheel impaired during Memorial Day weekend, putting everyone around them at risk during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

I now have more info on what led to the large police response and ERT activity today on Edgewood Drive in Danville.

I first broke news of this developing situation on my scanner page this afternoon after reporting that Avon Police had been requested to assist Hendricks County Sheriff's deputies and Danville Police on a barricaded suspect situation. A BearCat armored vehicle was deployed and fire crews staged nearby as the response continued to grow.

Information released later indicates Hendricks County Sheriff's deputies were originally responding to a domestic disturbance on Edgewood Drive. Investigators say deputies encountered a man outside the residence who reportedly went in and out of the home multiple times before eventually coming back outside carrying a rifle.

The incident later ended with officers opening fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later found a woman on the property who was also pronounced dead.

The investigation remains active and additional information is expected to be released.
