Help us offer congratulations to Battalion Chief Nick Reed on his retirement!
The Hickory Fire Department proudly announces the retirement of Battalion Chief Nick Reed, marking the conclusion of 30 years of service and an exceptional career dedicated to public safety, leadership, and service to the City of Hickory.
Battalion Chief Reed began his career with the department on April 15, 1996, rising through the ranks of Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, Captain, and Battalion Chief. Over the years he has been instrumental in strengthening operational readiness, improving firefighter safety, and mentoring countless members of the department.
Chief Reed holds an associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology and is a graduate of the UNC Charlotte Fire and Rescue Management Institute, further demonstrating his commitment to professional development and modern fire service leadership. Throughout his career he earned numerous advanced certifications including Fire Officer III, Level III Fire Instructor, Live Burn Instructor, Driver Operator Instructor, Level 1 Fire Inspector, and EMT.
In addition to his service with the Hickory Fire Department, Chief Reed has devoted his personal time to serving surrounding communities. He continues to serve as a Captain with the Valdese Fire Department and Chief of Lovelady Fire and Rescue, further demonstrating his deep passion for the fire service and dedication to protecting others.
Chief Reed is forever grateful for the years of continuous support and understanding from his wife Michelle, and has two children, daughter Madison and son Landon. During his retirement he plans to continue a life balanced with family, church, work, and hobbies.
