New Paltz Rock is here to provide young aspiring musicians the opportunity to play and learn about all types of music. Learn and play songs by the great singers and bands who created the history of rock and popular music. In our workshops students play in a band, learn songs they want to play, develop their skills, meet other musicians and gain valuable experience working with others. Ultimately the bands let it all out in a performance at the end of the workshop. The is truly the best way to get started. It builds confidence, brings young musicians together, allows the to express themselves and learn what it takes to create something together. And it doesn't end after one workshop. Many students have come back for more and we often have openings for our bands to play at outside venues. Whether they play in one workshop or come back over and over again, this is an experience they will never forget! The workshops are open to all instrumental musicians and singers ages 9-17. New Paltz Rock is owned and directed by UK musician Julian Baker. Julian has worked in the music business since graduating college in '86. From London to New York Julian has worked in recording studios, performed in clubs, produced artists, traveled Europe and worked on artists tours. This experience inspired Julian to work with young musicians, helping them learn and prepare for performing and working effectively and respectfully with others. Julian plays bass, keyboards and guitar and teaches at Marist College. He was also awarded Gold Certification by the RAAA for a production with Beats Planet that scored over 81 million views on Youtube.
