Classic American Apple Pie ππ₯§β¨
The ultimate symbol of American home baking! π‘ Served warm π₯, maybe with ice cream π¦... pure happiness! ππ
Ingredients: π
β’ 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade! π₯§)
β’ For the Crust (if homemade): 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt π§, 1 cup VERY COLD butter π§βοΈ, ~1/2 cup ice water π§βοΈ
β’ For the Filling:
β’ 6-7 medium apples ππ (like Granny Smith/Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, sliced
β’ 1/2 to 3/4 cup granulated sugar π¬ (adjust to your taste!)
β’ 1/4 cup packed brown sugar (optional)
β’ 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or 2 tbsp cornstarch)
β’ 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon π
β’ 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
β’ 1 tablespoon lemon juice π
β’ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter π§, cut into small pieces
β’ To Finish: 1 beaten egg π₯ (for wash), 1 tbsp sugar β¨ (for sprinkling)
Instructions: π©βπ³π¨βπ³
1. Crust (if making): Mix flour/salt. Cut in COLD butter π§βοΈ until coarse meal. Add ice water π§ little by little until dough forms. Divide, flatten, wrap & chill! π₯Ά
2. Filling: Toss sliced apples ππ with sugars, flour/cornstarch, spices π, and lemon juice π.
3. Assemble: Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C) π₯. Roll out bottom crust, place in pie plate. Fill with apples π. Dot with butter π§.
4. Roll out top crust. Place over filling (make slits!) or create a lattice #οΈβ£. Trim & crimp edges.
5. Brush top with egg wash π₯ποΈ & sprinkle with sugar β¨.
6. Bake: On a baking sheet, bake at 400Β°F (200Β°C) for 20 mins. Reduce heat π₯ to 375Β°F (190Β°C), bake 40-50 mins more until golden & bubbly! π (Cover edges if browning too fast!)
7. COOL completely on a wire rack (at least 2-3 hours!) before slicing β³. This is important! Then, enjoy! π
