Plum Island. Low tide.

The egrets were working the shallows. Horseshoe crabs moving through the sand the way they have for four hundred million years—a few flipped onto their backs, righted and sent on. And among them, a McDonald’s cup.

That’s the part we can change.

Sunday, June 7. 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

We’re meeting at Plum Island (Lot B) with Making Waves Coalition to clean this stretch of Sandy Hook shoreline in honor of World Oceans Day.

Bring a friend, bring a bucket, bring the willingness to leave a place better than you found it, and connect with a community that loves this place like you do.

The crabs were here well before us. Let’s make sure the beach stays worthy of them.

SailGP is what happens when you take everything sailing has learned in the last twenty years and put it in one boat.

The F50 doesn’t sit in the water. It rises out of it. Underwater
wings — foils — lift the entire hull above the surface.

What you’re watching is essentially a flying catamaran with a six-person crew strapped in behind a wing taller than that of a 747.

They race at speeds that used to belong to powerboats. Sixty miles an hour. Past the Statue of Liberty.

We sailed there to watch them.

The full passage from Highlands to NYC is on YouTube now.

Saturday morning. 30-knot south-east wind. The kind of forecast that grounded twelve SailGP teams in New York Harbor.

We left Bahrs and made the journey anyway.

25 nautical miles from Highlands to the Battery. The old way to get to the harbor on the day the fastest sailboats in the world stayed tied up.

Full passage now on YouTube.

Solstice is getting closer.

The sun rises further up the shore now, and from the deck you can feel it, that extra degree of angle, that extra minute of gold before the day takes over.

The sun, the Atlantic, doing what it always does.
