Knowing God’s Word shapes how I pray, because it teaches me who He is, what He has said, and what He has promised to do.
The more I know His Word, the more I learn how to pray rightly.
It teaches me what honors Him.
It corrects prayers that are driven more by my feelings than by His truth.
But knowledge cannot be my only focus.
I also need to surrender my will to His.
I need to get on my knees and pray.
I need to follow the example of Jesus, who did not only know the Father’s will, but submitted to it in prayer.
There are many people who know a lot of Scripture and do not live it.
And there are many people who pray things that go against what God has already said in His Word.
May we be people who know His Word, bow before Him in prayer, and live what we say we believe.
“Prayer is the mightiest engine God has placed in our hands. It is the best weapon to use in every difficulty, and the surest remedy in every trouble. It is the key that unlocks the treasury of promises, and the hand that draws forth grace and help in time of need. Show me a growing Christian, a going forward Christian, a flourishing Christian, and sure am I, he is one that speaks often with his Lord. He tells Jesus everything.” J.C. Ryle
