🌬 It was the biggest storm to ever hit the . Winds hit 170 MPH at Mt Hebo at the Coast and rushed into and the valley 100 MPH to 130 MPH and flattened churches, buildings, houses, train depots, and more.

💯 The is still talked about today as the biggest one ever! The Columbus Day Storm of 1962 severely impacted Hillsboro and Washington County on October 12, 1962, causing major damage to the Hillsboro Airport and widespread property destruction.

Impact on Hillsboro & Washington County

• Hillsboro Airport Damage: Hurricane-force winds flipped and completely wrecked small aircraft, blew away hangars, and damaged local navigational beacons. Across Oregon airports, 226 airplanes were damaged, 56 were completely destroyed, and 24 hangars were flattened.
• Property and Infrastructure: Local residents documented widespread destruction, including large uprooted trees, downed utility and power lines, chimneys blown off houses, and structural damage to homes and local agricultural areas.
• Power and Communications: The storm knocked out electricity, telephone service, and broadcast stations across the Portland metropolitan area for days, leaving homes dependent on battery-powered radios.

Let's understand this: Out-of-area landowners with a history of pushing for Industrial Growth and UGB Expansion in North Plains last election cycle now have massive hay bale signs for three supposed North Plains 1st or Locals First candidates on their land? And yet no one seems to connect the money, the influence, and the confusing messaging here? So these candidates want massive new growth in North Plains? Or are their signs mistakenly put on this land by a PR Firm? A Candidate representative? This is what it is, right? You elect these folks, this land gets in the boundary, and the landowners cash in? Am I confused, or is an entire, confusing campaign being used to confuse and dupe voters? Weigh in — come out from the shadows- whoever is paying for this, whoever bought all the signs — stand and claim your ground. This land is OUTSIDE NORTH PLAINS and is protected farmland — so are you saying on the record you want all the land from Sunset Ridge to US 26 in the UGB for massive growth? And will the landowners pay their way, or will this growth hurt the City like the last wave?? I mean, it was planned for Data Centers, and 72% of North Plains voters said NO — in fact, they said HELL NO. So is this now a statement that, if elected, you don't care and want it all in? Or is this just a "friend" letting you as candidates run your Pro-Growth slate signs? I am emailing everyone for comments. This post is exploratory—we want the truth! Time for real candidates who are truly looking out for the residents of North Plains to be truthful — the games, fake accounts, the Blogs filled with false information, and no official owners. Well, if you're running with that group, you are not really for the people, are you? How about the 3 Candidates respond with a statement of why signs on this land and the land pretty much all the way to US 26 feature signs for you. Thank you for your attention to this matter-

Meet Dr. Mihirkant Upadhyaya—a Senior Supply Chain Program Manager at ’s Ronler Acres campus, holder of four advanced degrees in Physics and Nanoscale Engineering, and now officially certified across six international record organizations as the most academically qualified individual in recorded history to trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp.

Pushing through minus-20°C gale winds, sub-70% oxygen levels, and managing a lifelong battle with asthma, Mihirkant trained right here in our backyard on Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens before setting foot on the Khumbu Glacier with Highland Expeditions.

For him, it wasn’t just an endurance milestone. It was an ancestral homecoming honoring his father’s roots in Nepal—and proof that intellectual rigor and physical grit belong hand in hand.

Red Cross Blood Drive staff reached out - they need our help to hit their goal tomorrow at the Brookwood Library. I know people give to our community in a lot of ways- this is one of them. Help out if you can!

🤠 According to Council President Rob Harris there was a lot of Misinformatikn put out about the special for Data Centers and options that are in the new codes the Council is finalizing. Once again he uses that word but offers bo proof or specifics.

🧭 We questioned the loose and not supported language in the new codes that will allow a company to send its Data and Ai Compute needs anywhere in the City...with no conditions as to size and setbacks from schools and homes. He knows that is a true IMHO. It would be devastating.

So once again stood up and asked for clarity. The answers were not clear and everyone was confused. So I will be asking for totally clear answers and report back. I am also asking Councilor Harris to sit down with myself and a few other community voices 1 on1 to work through this.

Let us all remember we were promised a Data Center town hall that NEVER HAPPENED ...while our city staff help at least 6 meetings with INTEL,PGE, and others. We did not rank high enough to even get a sit down. That is a Fact!

Ok... the game continues of cat and mouse and writing meaningful codes. Progress is happening but not without a lot of bias.

🚜 Farming made a regional power as far back as the 1880s. The beauty of the land, the millions in production, the jobs, the hard work eth, AND THE FOOD ...all of that made us who we were...and I hope still are. I grew up, like some still here, in the valley and in the fields. From 5 or 6 years on, if we didn't grow it and pick it, we were going to be hungry.

🏭 And you know as factories and machines came to our town, the work ethic carried us all to a shared prosperity. Farms in balance with new players like Noble Craft, , Birdseye, and Soloflex ... it all worked because we had more jobs but did not trade the good things away. A balance between the forces.

😡 But these last 20 years or so outsiders took up power in City Hall and then appointed a base that like them, did not know or appreciate our ways... our hard work ethic...our people and "balance over money" way of doing things. And now we see those folks, big corps, and Private Equity just obliterating our lands, our systems, not paying property taxes like we do, and alot of that money is flowing through the Washington County Chamber PAC to candidates that will keep all that going. They took over and buried the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce to have more leverage and less local input. So at this point, anyone expecting their money and endorsed by them is beholding. We will not see any change...just more of what we have been seeing. And our jobs and lands and energy and water are all diminishing at an alarming rate. We see them, we know who is funding this, and it has to end

🕕 We need a time out. We need to catch our breath here in Hillsboro and focus on our kids, our people, and our borderlands which have cradled and protected and FED us for so very long. If we don't stop now, then there will be nothing much left for us to fight for.

VOTE FOR CHANGE...AND IF A CANDIDATE HAS A CHAMBER ENDORSEMENT, ITS A NO FOR ME.
NOTHING PERSONAL...BUT SO IT MUST BE.

🤪 The passed a code for our Data Centers and AI Computing rules that does reflect most of what Hillsboro Residents stated that they wanted.

🏭 Having said that, the Planning and Economic Development teams took it upon themselves to conduct a series of communications and online meetings with INTEL, PGE, the Chamber and other what they stated were "Industry Partners". This led to a Transfer of Rights concept which completely gutted much of what the code seeks to do.

🏁 Once again Councilor saved the day and got that section removed for more work. This shows how confusing the matter was / is. This needs more work!

Pay attention folks and vote for good candidates that will protect out futures!!
