UPDATED STORY: Here are some resources for those being affected by the which had come to Hillsboro and our communities in Washington County!

They’re hunting our neighbors. Hillsboro is under ICE siege — and our community is fighting back.

Daily arrests and abductions. Parents are too afraid to send their kids to school. Businesses are struggling, primarily Latino- and Hispanic-owned shops and markets.

In our new Hillsboro Herald resource guide, we:

Call this crisis what it is

Lift up people on the front lines, from ICE watchers like Kiley Delgado to student leader Manny Chavez.

Share hotlines, legal aid, food distribution, and support from CENTRO, Adelante Mujeres, PIRC, and others

Point toward the next key City of Hillsboro meetings where real decisions will be made

If you’ve been watching this unfold and wondering how to help, start here.

⚠️ Is Oregon Facing Its Own Flint?
A new national investigation from Rolling Stone and the Food & Environment Reporting Network says Amazon’s data centers in Boardman are “supercharging” a nitrate crisis in Eastern Oregon’s drinking water – with rare cancers, miscarriages, and kidney damage showing up in families on private wells.

At the same time, Hillsboro is racing toward 800+ megawatts of data centers, all while our schools, fire, police, and parks lose out on millions in tax revenue.

The Herald looks at what’s happening in Boardman – and asks what it means for Hillsboro’s own data-center boom.

Elk still slip through the creeks north of Highway 26. Eagles still ride the thermals above the trees. At the edge of Hillsboro’s growth, PCC Rock Creek holds 100 acres of forest and wetlands where students learn by planting, measuring, and listening.

Dr. Val Brenneis has spent more than a decade teaching in this “living lab,” restoring habitat, building partnerships, and inviting Indigenous educators to reconnect students with the cultural history of this land. She’s just been honored with PCC’s Galbraith Teaching Excellence Award—and she absolutely deserves it.

Take a few minutes to read her story, then think about what it means to have this kind of wild space still surviving in our valley.
