Last Call Snowfall Forecast – Jan 13, 2026

Here’s the latest snowfall outlook for southern Michigan, valid from 7 AM Wednesday through 7 PM Thursday.

Lake-effect snow will remain the primary focus, especially along and west of US-131 and near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Snowfall totals will drop off quickly as you move inland.

Expected Snowfall Totals:

Lakeshore communities: Generally 3–6 inches, with isolated higher amounts possible under persistent lake-effect bands.

West-Central Michigan: Around 2–4 inches, locally higher closer to the lake.

Central, Southeast, and South-Central Michigan: Trace to 1 inch, mainly from light snow showers.

Travel impacts will be most noticeable near the Lake Michigan shore where heavier snow bands develop. Inland areas should see minimal accumulation but may still experience slick spots during snow showers.

Forecast confidence is highest for the lakeshore and lower for exact placement of heavier bands. Snowfall totals may vary significantly over short distances.

Stay tuned for updates as lake-effect bands shift and evolve.

6–10 Day Temperature Outlook - January 19–26, 2026

Latest outlook data continues to favor below-normal temperatures across much of Southern Michigan during the January 19–26 period. Probabilities generally range from 60–80% below normal, with some locations showing slightly higher confidence than others.

This pattern supports continued winter-like conditions, including colder daytime highs and overnight lows compared to climatological averages for late January. While brief fluctuations are always possible, sustained above-normal warmth does not appear likely during this timeframe.

This outlook reflects overall temperature trends, not daily forecasts. Updates will be issued as newer guidance becomes available.

A narrow band of rain continues to move east through much of southern and central Lower Michigan early this afternoon. The heaviest rain is currently focused from near Hillsdale and Jackson northward through the Lansing area and toward the Saginaw Valley, with lighter showers extending west toward Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.

Rainfall rates remain mostly light to occasionally moderate, but brief heavier downpours are possible within the more organized band. Roads may become wet and slippery, so use caution if traveling.

Additional spotty showers may linger behind the main band.

We’ll continue to monitor radar and provide updates as needed.

First Call Snowfall Forecast – Wednesday Jan 14th - 15th, 2026

This upcoming system looks to bring a period of light to moderate winter precipitation across Southern Michigan, with impacts varying west to east.

West Michigan (Lakeshore into Southwest Michigan):
Areas closer to Lake Michigan, including Muskegon, Holland, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, have the highest confidence for accumulating snow. Amounts generally range from 1 to 3 inches inland, with locally higher totals possible near the lakeshore where lake enhancement may occur. Some pockets near St. Joseph could see higher totals if lake-effect bands persist.

Central Michigan:
From Grand Rapids to Lansing, Hastings, and Jackson, snowfall amounts trend lower overall. Most locations are expected to see a dusting to around 1 inch. Periods of snow may mix with rain at times, limiting accumulations, especially south of I-96.

East and Southeast Michigan:
From Flint and Saginaw southward through Detroit, Pontiac, Adrian, and Port Huron, precipitation will likely fall mainly as rain with brief snow or mixed precipitation. Little to no snow accumulation is expected, though a trace to a dusting cannot be ruled out during colder periods.

Additional Notes:
Southern Michigan will see rain first then becoming all snow once temperatures cool off. We will see another clipper Friday into Saturday, Stay tune for that!

This forecast will be refined as newer data becomes available.
