Jaguar Cross Country took to Grand National Golf Course yesterday for our annual home meet. With 16 teams in attendance ranging from Hibbing to Cambridge and down to Chisago Lakes and also including almost all the GRC teams, the Jags ran into some tough competition and were ready to respond.
Highlighting our day were 7 personal bests at both the junior high and 5k distance. The junior high would see Donny Currie (17:55), Lyrik Hippen (21:31), and Addie Fritz (15:42) all setting personal bests at the 3200m distance. 5k personal bests went to Cash Rieken who broke the 20 minute barrier for the first time in 19:53, Abbie Anderson who completed her first 5k as a Jaguar in 25:19, Leila Mallow who decided to completely bypass times in the 25 minute range finishing in 24:53, and Brittyn Stiel who dropped her personal best for the fourth time this season running 28:34.
The Jags were able to put three full teams on the course as well. The junior high boys of River Buzzell (37th), Levi Hickle (47th), Croix Brant (48th), Donny Currie (62nd), and Lyrik Hippen (71st) formed our first complete junior high boys team of the season and were able to finish 6th of 6 complete teams but also included 9 incomplete teams.
The varsity girls had a great showing placing 6th overall out of 14 complete teams and two incomplete schools. Haley Geiger led the way with her 16th overall place followed by Emma Richter finishing 33rd overall. Autumn Painovich finished 42nd, Brooklyn Storlie would pass 19 people in the final two miles to place 47th, and Leila with her aforementioned personal best finished 70th to round out the scoring. Claire Linden would place 71st and Sophie LeTournea would place 74th to complete the varsity squad.
With five additional girls on the team, the junior varsity would also have a complete team finishing 4th out of 5 complete teams. Abbie Anderson led the way with a 9th place overall finish, Kenna Rabe 11th, Annie Alleman 21st, Brittyn Stiel 28th, and Davanie Wodash 47th would make up this team.
Cash Rieken and Eli Geiger would be a part of the largest race of the day, the combined varsity/junior varsity boys race featuring 233 finishers. Cash would be the top Jaguar with his 67th place finish with Eli 13 spots behind in 80th.
The Jags enter October with one regular season meet left next Tuesday in Royalton and two 'playoff' like meets in our Great River Conference Championship race at Pine City on the 15th and the Section 5A race on the 23rd.
