***PRESTONSBURG POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT***
August 04. 2025
At approximately 11:20 P.M. on Friday, August 1, 2025, Prestonsburg/Floyd County ECC received a 911 call that a motorist’s vehicle had possibly been shot on US 23 North near Bull Creek Trade Center.
Officers were immediately dispatched and upon arrival contacted two callers who stated that one was traveling northbound towards Prestonsburg, and the other southbound towards Allen in the construction zone near Bull Creek Trade Center when their vehicles appeared to have been shot. Initial statements collected at the scene seemed to contradict one another as to the type of potential suspect vehicle and direction of travel. The area was canvassed, and no one was located, however preliminary at-scene review of surveillance footage yielded a possible suspect vehicle. That vehicle description is not being released yet as we work to confirm their involvement.
The following morning, a third caller came forward with an apparent gunshot to their vehicle, and again on Monday, a fourth caller came forward with a gunshot to their vehicle. All vehicles were in the same area within a twenty-minute timespan on Friday night.
At present, Det. Dennis M. Hutchinson is leading the investigation which has determined the location of the shooter and expansive review of video surveillance collected from three locations surrounding the area is currently in progress. We anticipate a felony arrest in the coming days.
As of now, it is believed that this was an isolated incident for a short period of time, and a poor attempt at some sort of scare-tactic prank. Patrol in the area has increased in an abundance of caution, but there is no reason to believe that there is continued danger to the public.
It is imperative that if you are involved in any type of incident, especially one of this magnitude, that you notify the Police immediately, as determining the location of the shooter was delayed by days due to delayed reports.
If you have any information, we ask that you contact us at 886-1010.
We will update this release as this investigation progresses.
