Marshfield citizens have formally initiated the first step in a recall process targeting Select Board Chair Eric Kelley.

The petitioners filed an affidavit with the town clerk stating concerns that Kelley “fast-tracked” a June 2025 hearing against Police Chief Tavares, targeted other town employees, and “regularly displayed incompetence and a lack of preparation” at Select Board meetings.

On Sept. 14, a 75-year-old woman was allegedly abducted from the parking lot of the 99 Restaurant in Pembroke by a man posing as a valet driver. Police say surveillance footage and traffic records from Rhode Island helped confirm the timeline and support the woman’s account.

The suspect, Michael J. Guerrero, 36, of Rhode Island, was arrested and now faces five felony charges: kidnapping, carjacking, indecent assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, and assault with a dangerous weapon. He entered a plea of not guilty on Monday.

Guerrero is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Oct. 6.

A new community group, Invest in Cohasset, is calling for greater transparency and accountability in town decision-making. The group has introduced a citizen petition for the Nov. 3 Special Town Meeting that seeks to restore tuition-free full-day kindergarten.

Organizers say the proposal, signed by more than 100 residents, responds to the recent reintroduction of a $3,000 per-student kindergarten fee. They also point to broader concerns about long-term planning, including the proposed public safety building and the town’s approach to recycling services.

The Select Board is scheduled to discuss the petition on Sept. 30. Supporters say their goal is to encourage residents to ask questions and play a more active role in shaping the town’s priorities.
