You know the phrase, “shoot for the stars and you might reach the moon”? Well, I think it should be, “shoot for the stars, you might reach them.” When I was nearly finished writing 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨! ( with John Wiley and Sons, I realized I had no idea how to get those praise quotes you often see on the back cover of books. I also didn’t have a network of famous friends and authors to reach out to for help. So what did I do?

I took time each day to brainstorm who might be open to endorsing my approach to developing our minds for peak performance without sacrificing well-being and came up with a list of dozens of people. The list included celebrities and best-selling authors like Oprah Winfrey, Dorothy "Doro" Bush Koch , Seth Godin, Arianna Huffington, Tony Robbins, Adam Grant, Ryan Holiday, Robert Greene, and many more. You might think (like my mind did), “Who the hell does Clif think he is asking these people for a moment of their time, let alone asking for praise quote for his yet to be printed book; he’s a nobody.” Fortunately, I wasn’t encumbered by that limiting belief.

I searched for any way to contact these people through emails found online, website contact forms, pinging anyone who might know them and I sent them each a personalized request. Some never responded at all, others like Seth Godin responded thoughtfully and politely declined while wishing me luck, and then a few like Arianna Huffington, Robert Greene, and Dorothy "Doro" Bush Koch, responded that they would be open to taking a look at the pre-preprint and eventually offered a praise quote for this new unknown author.

Here’s the thing; my mind didn’t expect anyone would do it. If I had believed what my limited mind expected, then I wouldn’t have asked any of them. Be aware of your automatic expectations about what’s possible and then shoot for the stars anyway you just might reach them.

That’s a wrap! Had a blast heading into the DC offices of the amazing Podville Media to record a keynote for Doro Bush Koch and Reilly Koch's Achieving Optimal Health Conference. They’ve been running this transformational health and wellness conference in collaboration with Georgetown University Wellness for 12 years now and it’s not to be missed.

As you can see from the picture, Hannah had to tone down the high level of shine on my noggin! We’ll all have to wait and see how she did. At the conference, I’ll be delivering my keynote that led to the book deal with John Wiley and Sons to write 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨! (

Mark your calendars now for Saturday October 15, 2022 and register here I hope to connect with you at the networking opportunities during the conference.

Why do we prune apple trees? I can’t believe it’s been a year since releasing 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨! ( The last 12 months have been a whirlwind and I hope to share some of the milestones and key moments this week. One such milestone is related to the interactive keynote I’ve been delivering since 2016. Few know the story of how the keynote led John Wiley and Sons to reach out to me about writing a book.

I delivered a keynote to 3900 people in Orlando, FL in December 2019 and, unbeknownst to me, someone in the audience shared my story with an acquisitions editor at Wiley who contacted me asking if I had considered writing book. I thought it was a scam at first and didn’t believe it. I thought to myself, “really, some random guy claiming to be from Wiley is reaching out me?!?!” However, after some LinkedIn stalking, I realized the guy was legit and I responded to his note, leading to the book deal.

At that time, I had introduced my unique approach to mindfulness and training the mind for peak performance to about 27,000 people over the previous three years. Now, two years later, I just surpassed 100,000 people who’ve attended the keynote. How did I nearly triple in two years what had previously taken me three years to accomplish?

I pruned my tree. We prune apple trees so the apples on the remaining branches get the most nutrients possible to grow as large as they can. During those first three years delivering my keynote, I was also doing many other things at the same time, diluting my focus and effort. Once I got the book deal, I decided to narrow my focus on one primary line of effort around bringing a widely misunderstood concept to more people. Now, 100,000 people later, I can share that pruning the tree was an effective way to maximize impact.

I wanted to buy an ebook which is unfortunately sold by Wiley. Saturday night I ordered and paid with my card, Wiley hit my card for $30, I was told an email would be coming. No email. Monday I called, after a long wait I got someone who told me the order had been cancelled. Never mind that I had already paid. He said he would put in for a refund. Suggested I re-order which I did. Guess what? No email. Called back and demanded someone fix this problem. Person put me on hold for a long time then came back and told me there was nothing he could do, my second $30 would be refunded eventually. I called back and demanded he escalate to someone who could solve the problem, put on hold for 30 minutes. By now I am pi**ed. Hung up, called back, this person took my order and entered it manually. Hit my card for the third $30. I did actually did get my email and ebook this time though he ignored my suggestion that I should get the book for free given the trouble and anger I was put through. He of course ignored this suggestion. I demanded someone call me to explain this debacle. Today is Tuesday and I have not heard from anyone. Bottom line, Wiley publisher suck. And suck. And suck. I hope I never, ever have to do business with these as****es ever again. Burns my ass right here and now just to think about it. Wasted most of my morning. Spoiled what might have been a good day. F**k John Wiley and Sons and the f**k the horse they rode in on.

I'm a fantastic employee. And make your company money. I do everything you ever ask but I will not be forced as you're doing something you're making me do. I don't understand why you feel the need to do what you are positioning me to do. You are going to fire me by January 18th if I don't comply to the jab. I work from home I'm not around anybody but yet this is your decision. I can't even tell you how deeply saddened I am that this is a blanketed Decision. In your effort to be inclusive you are so exclusive. Do better. You are going to lose the best peopleYou've ever had working for you.
