"F&SF recently accepted a story by a writer whose background, when we learned of it, turned out to be a cause for concern. We will not be publishing that story.

I stand by my editor’s integrity, leadership, and vision for F&SF.

Apologies to everyone who has been disappointed. We strive to do our best and will continue to do so. Thank you to those folks who have supported us."

Enjoy this recent review of the new MAY/JUNE 2023 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction from AMAZING STORIES by Andrew Weston:

"If you’re looking for a truly spectacular blend of ancient history and far-future adventure, then look no further. This issue has whales that sing directly to the stars; tips of the hat to Lord of the Rings; revenge-seeking mummies; AIs that threaten to make humans redundant in just about every aspect of life; and dingy drinking holes on even dingier moons in which to make new besties."

2023 feels like its moving faster than the speed of light! I hope your holiday was peaceful and restful and that the new year is treating you all gently. There is some good news for the magazine, but I'll save that for another post. This is my twelfth issue as the editor of F&SF, and I am honored to continue this new journey with such wonderful writers and readers!

The new stories, poems, and voices for the January/February 2023 issue are exciting, original, and memorable, and I'm thrilled to share them with you, especially with Kent Bash's vibrant, retro spacey cover that made me smile when I first saw it.

Thank you for your kind letters and other reading recommendations, as well as your thoughts on my Sun Ra editorial. I didn't realize so many of you shared love for the Arkestra's music. Some fellow David Bowie fans reached out as well, and that has been a treat. Let me know if you pick up any of the works that are discussed in our Curiosities columns, as that's an in-house favorite, and it would be great to know what you discovered in reading these unusual works that may have escaped your radar over the years. And of course, our columnists appreciate any feedback you care to share, as they work very hard on creating original, interesting content for each issue.

You've probably heard that Amazon has shaken up the magazine scene by "reorganizing" their direct subscription model. Please know that digital readers can obtain PDFs, epub, and mobi versions of the magazine via Weightless Books (on Twitter). Meanwhile, subscribe and renew your subscriptions directly with the magazine when you can. F&SF is a great gift, so check out those gift subscriptions as well, and thank you for helping to Keep Print Alive in these challenging times!
