Jamaican junior 400m standout Jasauna Dennis is building an impressive track profile — and getting paid.

In 2024, he claimed Pan American Games 400m gold and a meet record, earned a World Indoor Championships silver as part of Jamaica’s 4x400m relay team, and recorded the fourth-fastest 400m time in University of South Carolina history.

NIL deals allow junior athletes like Dennis to earn from their name, image and likeness while maintaining NCAA eligibility.

The pain of grief can sometimes sharpen focus, turning loss into purpose. That was the case when the man who raised Sekou McDonald died.

What followed was a search for meaning that pulled him out of his comfort zone and into an unfamiliar world.

It is there that he found direction, and where he now thrives as the founder of 876 Polo, the UK’s first Jamaican polo team.

Before Jonkonnu became performance art or a festival feature, it was a living Christmas tradition rooted in ritual, ancestral memory, resistance and community.

These traditions do not survive by accident. When meaning fades and practice stops, culture quietly erodes. Preservation begins with knowledge, intention and active community participation, not nostalgia alone.

As conversations about reviving Jonkonnu continue, the real question is not visibility, but continuity.

Long live Jonkonnu.

Today, we pause our celebrations to remember the over 60,000 enslaved Jamaicans who, on this day in 1831, carried out one of the most significant acts of resistance in Caribbean history.

The Christmas Rebellion, led by Sam Sharpe, was a heroic act that exposed, shocked and eventually destabilized the inhumane system of slavery.

It has been a challenging quarter for small businesses back home. Hurricane Melissa has dampened what is usually the most important time of year for sales, particularly for those in the creative industries.
