Though our land bears the scars of one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded, with homes destroyed and lives tragically lost still the Jamaican spirit remains unshaken.

In their memory, we will rebuild, stronger and more resilient than before.

If you’re not a devoted track and field fan, you might not know — or remember — the name George Ezekiel Kerr. Long before Jamaica’s sprinting dominance, Kerr was our homegrown middle-distance hero, blazing trails on tracks across the region and around the world.

Born in Hanover on October 16, 1937, Kerr was a collegiate champion and double Olympic medallist. He made history in 1962 when Jamaica’s flag was raised for the first time in recognition of an athlete’s victory, after he swept the 400m, 800m and 4×400m relay at the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Today, we remember George Kerr and honour his lasting legacy, click link below for the full story.

Once a coffee plantation, Maidstone in Manchester became one of Jamaica’s first free villages following Emancipation.

Built by formerly enslaved people who purchased and cultivated land from the Moravians, Maidstone grew into a thriving community grounded in faith, education, and independence. Its landmarks — including the Nazareth Moravian Church and The Maidstone Museum — continue to tell the story of a resilient town.

Today, Maidstone remains one of Jamaica’s most historically significant rural communities and a proud part of the Mile Gully Heritage Loop. 🇯🇲
