The human brain, especially the prefrontal cortex, develops into our mid-20s. This means decisions made by younger individuals, particularly those from backgrounds of abuse or trauma, may stem from impulse rather than rational thought. This understanding is crucial when considering the justice system's approach to sentencing.

Imagine a law sealing all juvenile records at 21. This gives everyone the same opportunity for a fresh start. My own record was sealed in Texas, allowing a second chance at life, free from past mistakes hindering future opportunities.

He wasn't born a monster. His past was filled with abuse, yet he served 29 years without violence. Upon release, he never killed again. Many men from his past are now different people. Is there a crime that truly warrants the death penalty? He believes there isn't, not even for killing law enforcement.

That moment when someone close betrays you, throwing you under the bus. It hits deep, making you question everything, even family. If they'd treat you like that, it's a harsh lesson learned.

The streets taught a vital lesson: awareness. It's about understanding the people around you, reading situations, and analyzing every detail. This sharpens your ability to take accountability and navigate life's complexities.

When my loyalty is questioned, it feels like a direct test. If I say it's done, it's done. Trust my word.

Imagine being hit with serious charges on school grounds, facing years behind bars. This is the reality faced after a first offense. But a champion stepped in, advocating fiercely with prosecutors, highlighting good grades and a clean record. This intervention made all the difference.

There was a time I wanted to fit in.

To be accepted.
To be understood.
To move like everybody else so I wouldn’t stand out.

Most people know that feeling.

The pressure to blend in.
The pressure to follow trends.
The pressure to do what everybody else is doing, even when it doesn’t feel right.

Because standing apart can feel lonely.

When you’re different, people question you.

When you move differently, people misunderstand you.

When you refuse to follow the crowd, people act like you’re the problem.

That’s where the enemy works.

He wants conformity.

He wants you so focused on being accepted that you abandon your purpose.

He wants you chasing approval instead of direction.

And for a while, I almost fell for it.

Almost traded authenticity for acceptance.

Almost silenced parts of myself just to make other people comfortable.

But God had different plans.

He reminded me that not everybody is called to blend in.

Some people are called to build differently.

Think differently.

Lead differently.

Walk a path that doesn’t make sense to everyone around them.

The crowd may be comfortable…

But purpose usually lives outside the crowd.

I learned that being different isn’t a curse.

It’s often confirmation.

Confirmation that you’re not meant to follow every trend.

Confirmation that you’re not meant to go every direction everyone else is going.

Confirmation that God placed something unique inside you.

So now I don’t worry about fitting in.

I’d rather stand where God placed me than sit where I don’t belong.

The devil wanted me to disappear into the crowd…

But God called me to stand apart 🚶🏾‍♂️🙏🏾🔥✨

Waking up feeling like you're still in prison is a heavy burden. When life's challenges feel overwhelming, holding onto faith is the ultimate protector. Praying five times a day and keeping God close can truly guide you through the toughest times.
