❤️ Bandit Needs Your Help ❤️

Bandit is one of many adrenal ferrets currently in our care.

If you've followed us for a while, you've probably seen this sweet boy pop up in photos and videos. He's a happy, curious "Big Boy" ferret who loves being involved in whatever we're doing.

Unfortunately, Bandit has adrenal disease, and it's time for his implant.

The implant helps control the symptoms of adrenal disease, reduces hair loss, improves comfort, and helps him maintain a good quality of life. This isn't a cosmetic procedure—it's an important part of keeping Bandit healthy and comfortable.

Rescue work is never just food and toys. Many of our ferrets require ongoing medical care throughout their lives, and those costs add up quickly.

Many of you know that we lost our page for a period of time and fought hard to get it back. Thankfully, we were eventually successful.

Unfortunately, despite months of trying to work with Facebook, we have never been able to get our monetization and payout issues resolved. As a result, we have lost hundreds of dollars in ad revenue, and supporters are currently unable to send Stars to help support the rescue.

At this point, we have decided to stop chasing Facebook for answers and focus our energy where it belongs: the ferrets.

Risky Business Ferret Sanctuary & Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit, and the need for rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming never stops. Vet bills, food, medications, supplies, and emergency intakes continue whether Facebook pays us or not.

We will continue creating videos, sharing educational content, telling the stories of our rescues, making you laugh, and being a voice for ferrets and responsible ownership. That part isn't changing.

Wilson was roaming the streets of Naples Florida covered in ticks with advanced adrenal disease. He was alone, scared, and only knew to bite. Now he is loved and has so many brothers and sisters!

We waited a bit to heal before telling this story. We will warn everyone that the photos and videos are not for everyone. They tell an emotional roller coaster. Consider yourself warned.

On May 18 2026 we made the decision to help our beloved Sweetie cross the rainbow bridge. Sweetie was surrendered many years ago from a very unstable home. She was surrendered with her "brother" Tigger. They actually were kept in separate cages and did not get along. At the same time another ferret Buddy was surrendered. We were actually able to get all 3 together with some patience. Buddy was nearly hairless from advanced adrenal disease. You have probably seen updates from years ago. Sweetie truly was the sweetest girl we ever rescued. She loved people so much. Other ferrets, not so much. Over the years Sweetie developed Adrenal Disease and later Insulinoma. We also lost Tigger to Insulinoma a few years ago. It was the Insulinoma that eventually overwhelmed her. We continued monitoring her blood sugar and increased meds as needed. Eventually there comes a point that medication can no longer be increased. On Monday, Sweetie and Buddy were in my office with me and I found Sweetie in the middle of a bad seizure. I was able to get her out of the seizure after about 30 minutes. All I could think about after this was, "What if I am not home next time?" We realized we had to make a decision. So I called our vet and told them I needed to come in today.

This is the hard part to talk about but it is extremely important that everyone understands this process and how incredibly important it is. Ferrets are very intelligent. Buddy knew something was wrong. He did not leave Sweetie for the rest of the day. He stayed near her, groomed her, and kept her warm. When we made it to the vet, Buddy once again started showing Sweetie affectionate love. Sadly it was time to separate them so we could end Sweeties suffering. I have never let anyone take our ferrets to the back without me. I insist on holding them and talking to them during the entire process start to finish. We will never allow them to be alone if we can be with them. It is very difficult to hold back the tears and try to speak to them with a cracking voice. But it must be done.

Once we returned to the room, I brought Sweetie back to Buddy so he could understand what had happened and give him a chance to say goodbye. This is where the true heartbreak is and this is devestating compared to what I just went through. Buddy stayed with Sweetie for about 30 minutes after she passed. He laid with her, groomed her, and kept her warm. As I watched, I could no longer hold back the tears. We as a rescue have always known how important it is for ferrets to grieve. It is equally important that as a rescue we teach others how to do this correctly.

Below are pictures and videos of this process. As you watch, you will understand that you are not the only one hurting. These are the steps we take. Once one of our bonded babies pass, we bring them back to the room or home and lay them in the area of their brothers and sisters. We just sit and wait for nature to take its course. We do not force interaction. Most importantly, we do not cut it short, we will stay there as long as it takes. Once all the ferrets have a chance to "pay their respects," we remove the ferret and prep him/her for cremation.

Buddy actually has always gotten along with other ferrets. Since Sweetie did not, we kept them separate from the group together. Once we made it home it was time to help Buddy finish his process. We kept him filled with soupies and he slept with us in the bedroom for a few days. During the day, he stayed with me in my office. Once we realized he was finished grieving, we introduced him to our large group of babies. We are happy to say, the introduction was smooth and effortless and within a few hours he was sleeping with a new friend.

DIP Sweetie. We miss you So much.

Ranger and Jeffery living their best lives! We love these boys and feel so privileged to be the ones that saved them. They have given us so much joy. These two boys will never leave the rescue.

This is Mrs Lady. She was adopted out but found her way back to us. She was very depressed but seems to finally be coming around. Its so hard when they grieve for their owners and all we can do is hold them and whisper to please not give up and let us love them!! I promised Lady if she hung in there then she would never have to feel the pain of this kind of loss again. I hope she heard and knows how much we mean it!!
