One of the things I’ve learned doing weddings is how important it is to be flexible, adaptable, and prepared for almost anything.

The more weddings I do, the more scenarios I’ve seen — and the more things I know to anticipate the next time.

What if the ceremony is in a completely different location from the reception? What if there’s no power where you expected it? What if the timeline gets pushed back? What if the microphone suddenly doesn’t cooperate? What if someone needs music somewhere you hadn’t planned on having a speaker?

You start carrying the extra cable. The backup microphone. Another way to play the music. A second plan for getting sound where it needs to go.

Because on your wedding day, something unexpected probably will happen. That’s just the nature of an event with a lot of people, moving pieces, and locations.

The goal isn’t to make sure nothing ever goes wrong.

It’s to be prepared enough that when something does, it barely registers as a problem.

You enjoy your day. I figure out the rest.

One of the things I've learned from doing more weddings is just how little of the day is actually spent on the dance floor.

That doesn't make the dancing any less important — it's one of the most challenging and fun parts of the job. But there's also ceremony sound, cocktail and dinner music, announcements, timing, transitions, and generally making sure the audio side of the day works the way it's supposed to.
