I have found myself quick to jump at tangible changes that will satisfy my momentary cravings for more. I get bored living in one location for too long; my solution is to uproot life and move. I become motivated to do more with my life than my current career opportunities allow me to, then let's go back to school and get a degree in something more meaningful. I want to make more money; let's apply for a billion jobs you aren't exactly qualified for yet, only to feel rejected when you are shot down time and time again.
We don't realize that we are called to "Bloom where we are planted." Sometimes God does call us to venture outside of our comfort zone and make significant changes, but more often than not, he wants to see you joyful and at peace being uncomfortable. He wants to see you grow in areas in which you never knew you had weaknesses. Discover joy in the mundane. More than anything, he wants you to be fruitful and make the best of life even when it is chunking squishy, sour lemons at you, and he calls us to do what's right, even when it's hard.
YOU GUYS... EVEN WHEN IT IS HARD!
I have spent all summer playing the "what if" game, desperately wanting to hear God tell me to go and gearing up to faithfully jump at the opportunities he has provided me. It's not God's voice I hear; it is my own.
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit" (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
As much as I despise the unknown, expectations, and feeling uncomfortable, I am vowing to be content with where God has placed me and make the absolute most out of the opportunities he has in store for me right where I am. Only he knows his plans for me, and by golly, I will not continue my attempts to derail those, no matter how much I want to.
