A tropical wave that is just now rolling off the coast of Africa is worth keeping an eye on. Right now, the NHC has placed development odds at 60% on this budding system, but most forecast models are fairly confident it will become our next named storm.

The good news here is that earlier and stronger development also likely means an earlier turn to the north, and the overwhelmingly likely outcome is a storm that turns north long before it ever reaches the US. We'll keep watching it, but the concern level here is low.

We now have Tropical Storm Cristobal, but this system does not pose a threat to the US and will likely be very short lived. This means the tropical wave currently in the deep tropics could now become Dolly later this week/weekend.

The UIL announced new heat safety protocols for high school athletes this school year. It involves using a measurement called the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature to dictate whether weather conditions are deemed safe for outdoor activities such as football practice or marching band.

NOAA HURRICANE OUTLOOK UPDATE: Today NOAA released their updated prediction for the rest of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. They do this every year in early August as a reminder that the meat of hurricane season is still ahead.

They have lowered their named storm total range down by 1 and did the same for the Major Hurricane range.

High wind shear from El Nino is the dominate factor at play in this hurricane season.
