The rains been feeding all kinds of goodies in the yard!! "Weeds" can be amazing!

𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐝/𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭 - Lepidium virginicum.

The leafs are great raw or sauteed in butter/oil! They contain Protein, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Even the seed pods are peppery!
Growing freely in the yard from the mustard family!
The whole plant is edible and is a viable substitute for black pepper! Great green taste with a burn on the tounge, but not overly powerful! Nutritious aswell! Great for salads! - Poor mans pepper!

Sweetgum ball tincture made from the family Liquidambar styraciflua!

The inner bark produces a fragrant resin, called American styrax or storax, which is used in cosmetics, soaps, perfumes, and to***co, and as a fixative in lacquers and adhesives. Historically, the hardened sap was chewed like gum for pleasure as well as for medicinal purposes!

Native Americans used an infusion of the bark medicinally for diarrhea and dysentery and also in poultices for cuts, sores, and bruises.”.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐮𝐦 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞
Needed:
Sweet gumballs GREEN
80-120 proof clear alcohol, such as (Zips and Goodrich liquor sell the first option for $14, im using Diesel) Diesel, Everclear or HIGH percent vodka.
Sealing Jars.

The sweet gum balls need to be used when they are still green and not brown.

The first step is to gather the green balls to fill whatever container you will be using. Then you need to SMASH EM! Use a hammer/mallet or your favorite beating stick to open them up so all the goodies leech out!
Add alcohol to the jar and store the jar in a dark place for at least 6 weeks.

Strain the tincture and put it in a dark amber bottle. It will keep forever!

𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: The sweet gum ball tincture can be taken to possibly prevent the flu by taking it daily during flu virus season to help your immune system fight off the influenza viruses and other infections as discussed in this article. One teaspoon a day is a suggested dosage. It can be taken with hot water or tea. Take a teaspoon every 3-4 hours when affected by a virus or symptoms such as sore throats.

Biltong! An amazing gift from the southern Africa's and an super easy and great way to store meat for longer term use! As opposed to traditional dehydration this deals with alot of vinegar lowering the PH to greatly fight bacteria.

Current recipe is drying for me right now.

Marinade

1 cup white vinegar

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup Worcestershire

Spice mix

1-2 cups coriander seeds, lightly roasted, then coarsely crushed (more is better)

1 tbsp coarse salt (start with less, too much will ruin the meat)

1.5 tbsp cracked peppercorns

1.5 tbsp brown sugar

0.5 tbsp garlic powder

1.0 tbsp paprika (optional)

1.0 tbsp red chili flakes (tune to your heat preference)

Slice meat into strips along the grain. Make your marinade and add meat to it. Let rest in the fridge 1-9 hours depending on how vinegar strong you want the flavor. (I leave it 8 hours)

Mix all spices together. When you pull the meat out dab it with a paper towel to get excess moisture off. Rub the meat down with the spice mix, you want lots of spice on there so use it all.

Finally, hang to dry. It takes 2 to 5 days typically for the right cure depending on thickness.
