🚨 BREAKING: America Unplugged: Public Broadcasting Faces Its Final Season After Federal Defunding.

In a historic and deeply polarizing decision, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) the financial backbone of PBS, NPR, and over 1,500 local public media stations is set to shut down operations following sweeping federal funding cuts enacted by Congress and supported by President Donald Trump.

The move effectively ends over five decades of federally-backed public broadcasting, a system once championed for educating, informing, and uniting Americans across political, cultural, and geographic divides.

This unraveling of public media’s national infrastructure follows the passage of the Rescissions Act of 2025, a little known but powerful legislative maneuver that stripped more than $1.1 billion in future CPB funding across fiscal years 2025 and 2026.

Soon after, the Senate passed a new appropriations bill allocating zero dollars to CPB, marking the first time in history the organization was entirely cut out of the federal budget. President Trump quickly signed the bill into law solidifying what many see as the culmination of his years long campaign against publicly funded media.

The administration had previously accused outlets like NPR and PBS of “left-leaning bias” and used that narrative to justify a May 2025 executive order directing the CPB to stop issuing funds to both organizations. Though legal battles briefly slowed implementation, Congress’s budget power ultimately sealed CPB’s fate.

According to internal memos reviewed by Politico and AP, CPB will begin winding down operations immediately: By September 30, 2025, most of the nonprofit’s employees will be laid off. A small transition team will remain until January 2026 to manage final legal and financial obligations.

“This isn’t just a budget cut. It’s a cultural disconnection,” said Karen Ortiz, director of a community station in northern New Mexico. “We’ve relied on CPB for a quarter of our funding. That disappears, and so does our voice.”

Experts say more than 400 stations nationwide are at immediate risk of downsizing, canceling educational programming, or ceasing broadcast altogether.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Sandra Iheanacho is a standout among young professionals reshaping the world of education and communication. With an impressive blend of academic accolades, hands-on experience, and a deep passion for helping others, Sandra is not only a tutor and speech-language pathologist—she’s a force in every classroom she steps into.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she consistently made both the Dean’s and President’s Lists. Her journey into education began by tutoring her younger siblings, eventually expanding to support cousins and family friends as well. After college, Sandra worked full-time in public schools as a substitute teacher while also serving as a registered behavior technician. She taught nearly every core subject—math, science, reading, language, and history—across all grade levels.

Over time, she developed a specialization in math instruction. As a tutor, she has worked with middle and high school students on pre-algebra, state test prep, Algebra I & II, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and SAT preparation. Determined to make a broader impact, Sandra returned to school and earned her masters in Speech and Language Pathology from North Carolina Central University, graduating summa cm laude. During graduate school, she received Academic Excellence, Clinical Excellence, and Leadership Awards, and served on the Executive Board of the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Today, Sandra works as both a tutor and a speech-language pathologist in the school system, combining her skills in communication and education to support students in meaningful, individualized ways.
