Authorities said a Ford Expedition was traveling southbound going close to 100 miles per hour made contact with a Chevy Avalanche that was making an illegal right turn from the inside lane, striking the Ford Expedition.

Police said the driver of the Expedition abandoned the vehicle with his wife and four children, took off running with another vehicle picking him up and leaving the scene.

The wife and four children were taken to the hospital. The eldest child, who is 8-years-old, was ejected, and the others were toddlers, officials said.

Passengers aboard a United Airlines flight in Houston headed to New York had a terrifying experience Sunday morning (Feb 2), when their aircraft caught fire. The incident took place at Bush Intercontinental Airport just before takeoff and video from inside the aircraft shows flames coming from the plane's wing. In one clip, flight attendants can be heard attempting to reassure anxious passengers. Eventually, those on board used stairs and the emergency slide to make their exit, according to the Houston Fire Department.

No major injuries were reported.

Officials are confirming that there are no survivors after an American Airlines regional jet and an Army Blackhawk helicopter collided in mid-air near Reagan National Airport last night.

The plane was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members en route from Wichita, Kansas.

Three soldiers on a training mission were aboard the helicopter. Figure skaters, their coaches and family members were passengers on the American Airlines jet, as they were returning from a developmental camp that followed the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
