Our teammate Tohru poured himself into writing what would become the SIM South Sudan heart piece—a video that captures the team’s deep desire to serve God. Reflecting on the process, he shared:

“I thought about how to present everything we wanted to say about the work in South Sudan. Then I realized—the only one who could truly understand all we wanted to express was God. A prayer was the only way to say everything we needed to say. How else could we pour out the longing in our hearts but through prayer?”

For this project, we leaned into fresh eyes from our two summer interns – Amen and Sam. They had 10 weeks with SIM Stories and we all teamed up to tell this story. Having interns like Amen and Sam gives so much life to the team as we all learn new things from each other. Have a look at this behind the scenes peek at the making of the film.

Every project has it’s challenges. For this project, we had a gripping true story, but the man’s identity needed to be protected. So, we leaned into this and found a local actor. We had published an advertisement in local actor Facebook groups and ended up connecting with a guy named Claude who perfectly fit the description. Turns out, he was a major role in a movie that was produced by friends and colleagues at AIM. He took the story as his own and portrayed such heartfelt emotions in communicating a story that points to how God is continually extending His love to those who don’t know him. Working with a very professional actor was a first for our crew, and we couldn’t have enjoyed the process more.

God’s timing and plans are perfect! A good reminder as two of our SIM Stories East Africa team were able to reunite in Nigeria as they work on different projects. After many months apart, it was such a blessing to share a sweet reunion in another corner of the world where they were able to work together in sharing how God is actively at work in Nigeria.

One of the wonderful aspects of the work we do as storytellers is getting to work with people from around the globe! While part of our team was in Malawi, they had the pleasure of working with Lee who is serving as the communications officer for SIM Malawi. This connection then brought Lee to Kenya to visit the rest of the SIM Stories Team. Creative work is best done with others and we loved having Lee join us!

The art of pottery and the joy that comes from making something with your hands.    This woman was an absolute pleasure to photograph. We spent hours gathered around under the scorching Nigerian sun, watching her create beautiful pots from a humble pile of dirt.    Her smile says it all.

John and Agness Lufani impacted their community through an act of forgiveness. This family is a direct example of what it looks like to live out SIM Malawi’s vision of being dedicated to sharing Christ’s love in Malawi in both word and deed. This is a powerful story of seeing words put into action and an incredible picture of the work Sports Friends is doing in Malawi.

Coach Frackson’s story is one that shows what it looks like to trust in God’s ability to work despite lacking material items. From a simple homemade soccer ball, Frackson grew the sports ministry and eventually planted a church in his community.
