Jarques Ratliff, 51, appeared in Jackson Municipal Court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to murder in connection with the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune. He was denied bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 25.

Fortune was found hanging from a tree outside an abandoned home in Jackson, Mississippi on August 3. Her body was discovered in various states of decomposition, according to police. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide on Thursday, September 11, after which the Jackson Police Department charged Ratliff with murder. According to an affidavit cited by CNN affiliate WAPT, Ratliff is accused of using a black cable cord in her death.

Police say Ratliff was known to the Jackson Police Department prior to the case and had a connection to Fortune, though the nature of their relationship has not been publicly disclosed. Investigators interviewed nearly 15 people before his identity emerged. Officers arrested Ratliff outside a convenience store — an encounter Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney described as ""completely happenstance."" He did not resist. Search warrants were executed at two separate locations the same day. Authorities have said additional arrests are expected.

Ratliff's attorney, Toney Baldwin, stated: ""It's just a mere accusation. It's not a conviction. We look forward to presenting the whole truth.""

Fortune is survived by four young children, ages 1 through 7, and her parents. She was laid to rest in Kentucky, where she was born.

🚨 BREAKING: DHS confirms ongoing criminal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar over alleged immigration fraud
Border Czar Tom Homan and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin have publicly stated that federal authorities are looking into long-standing allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), including claims related to her 2009 marriage and potential immigration/naturalization irregularities.

Mullin said authorities believe she “married her brother to try to bring him to the United States” and noted that if fraud is proven — and it is shown she should not have been here in the first place — deportation could follow. Homan confirmed an ongoing criminal investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, emphasizing that “no one is above the law.”

Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2000, has repeatedly denied the allegations. No charges have been filed, no arrest has occurred, and denaturalization (required before any deportation of a naturalized citizen) would require a formal court process with proof of fraud.

All nine guilty. A North Texas jury just convicted every member of an Antifa cell for the July 4, 2025 a*tack on the Prairieland ICE Detention Center — the one where they opened fire on federal law enforcement and left a police officer s*ot in the neck.

Fi****ms. Explosives. Body armor. A coordinated ambush. This wasn't a "mostly peaceful protest." The media spent years downplaying Antifa's violence, but a jury saw the evidence and rendered a verdict.

Eight defendants are facing t*rrorism charges — the first time material support statutes have been used against alleged Antifa members in American history. That's a watershed moment. President Trump's DOJ is finally treating domestic t*rrorism like what it actually is: a threat to law enforcement, to our institutions, and to public safety.

A white 62-year-old Texas engineer was st*bbed to de*th on a Round Rock park bench by a black suspect in an attack police call random.... and barely ANY media covered the story. Gee - wonder why....

Andrew James Wimsatt sat down at Chandler Creek around 10:55 a.m. on September 7. Surveillance video shows Benedict Ogbodiegwu Jr., 26, coming up from behind about three minutes later.

Deputies described the suspect as a black male with short dreadlocks and frosted tips. The arrest affidavit says he wrapped an arm around Wimsatt and drove a knife into his neck.

Wimsatt tried to push him off and could not. Investigators say the attacker kept st*bbing after Wimsatt hit the ground, then put a knee on his chest and sawed the blade across his neck.

The two men did not know each other. Williamson County deputies and Texas Rangers charged Ogbodiegwu with first-degree m*rder.

Bail is set at $1 million. A search of his home turned up a 5½-inch knife that tested presumptive positive for blood, plus stained clothes dumped in the trash.

Wimsatt was a licensed civil engineer who spent years at TxDOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Friends described him as gentle.

Ogbodiegwu had recent arrests for theft and giving police a fake name. Those cases were dismissed.

Interesting read from FFXnow on where the candidates for Virginia’s 8th Congressional District stand on AI and data centers.
In a recent Arlington Civic Federation forum, all four candidates expressed some level of caution about the rapid growth of data centers and AI — but their approaches differ:
• Don Beyer (D, incumbent) acknowledged potential risks but highlighted the upside, especially advances in healthcare, and said “there’s a lot of good that can come from it.”
• Tony Sabio (R) cautioned against fear of technology, saying we shouldn’t be scared of it despite risks from bad actors.
• Shelly Arnoldi (L) took the strongest stance against the current pace, calling for a halt on data centers “until we know what’s going on” and saying AI has been rolled out too quickly. She also expressed distrust in the government controlling it.
• Tim Sharman (I) raised concerns about AI’s potential to displace workers and argued data center decisions should stay local rather than be dictated from Washington.
Northern Virginia has become a major hub for data centers, and the issue is clearly heating up with voters. Credit to the candidates for engaging with it early in the general election cycle.

One year ago today we lost Charlie Kirk.
I still can’t believe how much I miss him. His way of speaking open dialogue, facts, reason gave people a real chance to argue the issues instead of shouting past each other. That’s rare. He articulated his positions clearly, and even when you agreed with almost all of them (which is hard to say about anybody), you still learned something from how he made the case.

We lost a good one.

Whatever the full story of that day turns out to be, we know this: Charlie is with the Lord. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Rest in peace, Charlie. Thank you for the courage and the conversations.
