Hmm. I have witnessed far too much in this life to make this declaration lightly:
World, I am proudly a woman, but I will never support wrongdoing merely because the person accused is female. Womanhood is not a license for dishonesty, cruelty, manipulation, obstruction or contempt. The Mohbad case demands truthfulness, not gender blindness.
I know my courage. When battle calls, my heart can measure up to those of ten men.
That does not make me superior to men, nor does it require me to diminish them. It simply means that I will never plead weakness to avoid standing firmly for justice.
Why have so many women defended Wunmi, without demanding equal accountability from her? Why have the laughter, dancing, vibing, public insults and ridicule appeared so painfully callous while Mohbad’s suspicious death remains unresolved? Grief manifests differently, certainly, but unanswered questions do not disappear merely because asking them makes people uncomfortable.
Who is Wunmi Cynthia Adebanjo?
What are her verifiable qualifications, skills, accomplishments and independent public standing?
Whatever they may be, what gives her the audacity to sound like thunder against Mohbad’s grieving father, Mr. Joseph Aloba?
Whatever his imperfections, when did a bereaved father become undeserving of basic dignity?
Publicly displayed documents have raised grave questions about Wunmi’s identity information and an NIN bearing the Aloba surname, while another reportedly verified record and her passport bear Adebanjo. These discrepancies deserve an official explanation from the National Identity Management Commission, not online dancing, insults or silence.
Documents have also, been circulated concerning legal steps reportedly taken by Wunmi and Adura in relation to Mohbad’s estate and royalties shortly after his death. Both were reportedly present in the house during Mohbad’s final hours. These circumstances do not automatically establish criminal guilt, but they are unquestionably serious enough to warrant transparent investigation and truthful answers.
Why was there such urgency concerning inheritance while Mohbad’s death remained unexplained and Liam’s paternity was still being disputed? Why has a conclusive, independently supervised DNA test remained so difficult to obtain?
Who benefits from this prolonged uncertainty?
Let me be perfectly clear: producing a document publicly is not the same as securing a judicial finding about what that document proves. Current reporting still describes the NIN-forgery claim as an accusation without a publicly verified determination from NIMC or a court.
That distinction does not make the questions “cheap swings”; it makes an official investigation even more necessary. (Silverbird Television.)
Nigeria must not become a country where gender, sexuality, connections or online popularity can overpower evidence and accountability. Are our institutions incapable of clarifying identity records, supervising a lawful DNA test, protecting witnesses and investigating a suspicious death without fear, favour or interference? And even if, not on these kinds of cases that are closely publicly being monitored. Hahaha ti wa o. Ki Gloria du ori ę bayi.
There are countless principled, compassionate and accomplished women in this world. Wunmi, her godmother and any supporter who ridicules a grieving family while resisting legitimate scrutiny do not represent me.
I am a woman, proudly, publicly and full-chested, but I completely disclaim blind female solidarity with wickedness.
Let the DNA question be resolved lawfully.
Let the documents be authenticated officially.
Let every person present during Mohbad’s final hours speak truthfully.
Let every credible lead be investigated.
Let Mr. Joseph Aloba receive dignity and mercy.
Let Mohbad receive justice.
No woman, and no man, must ever be considered untouchable.
Truth owes nobody an apology.
