Lian rubbed his forehead with his palm. He was troubled.
"What will happen tomorrow? Where will I get the money? How do I even begin to get the money? Oh God!"
He fell back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, like someone expecting a miracle, someone hoping someone would walk in and hand him a bundle of dollars. But no one came.
He stood up and walked out to the sitting room, where he met his wife, Chioma, sitting on a chair, crying. Swallowing his own tears and trying to act strong like a man, he walked over, sat beside her, and held her hands.
"Are we going to sleep on the street tomorrow, dear? He said we have until tomorrow. What are we going to do?" Chioma asked through her sobs.
"God will do it," Lian replied.
"How? How, Lian? Tell me how? Weโve tried everything, yet the money is not coming. Loan, friends... everything! What are we going to do?" Chioma said in frustration.
Lian picked up the Bible from the table and opened it. He read aloud:
My love," he said, "God is not a distant helper. He is very present... even in our times of crisis."
Chioma sighed, exhausted. "But this crisis is overwhelming. River Jordan will swallow us."
"It won't swallow us, instead we will walk on it. Chioma, We have to keep trusting," Lian said, with all the strength he could muster. "God is our Father, and He will surely come through for us. Please, letโs trust Him with everything within us. You remember Abraham didnโt consider the deadness of Sarahโs womb. He still believed in God, even when it seemed impossible and God did it. Do you believe?"
"I do," Chioma nodded.
"Then letโs pray."
They joined hands and knelt down to pray.

There was a knock. The door swung open and the landlord stormed in with two soldiers.
"Shameless people!" he shouted. "Leave my house!"
Lian walked out of the room, stunned and speechless.
Good morn-"
"Donโt even go there! Debtor!" the landlord snapped. "I want you both out!"
One of the soldiers suddenly paused, eyes widening.
"Lian!" he called. "Itโs him. Yes, Lian!"
"Danladi?" Lian exclaimed in surprise.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I, Iโฆ" Lian stammered.
"Letโs leave that for now," Danladi interrupted, then turned to the landlord. "Iโll pay for their rent."
The landlord raised a brow.
Lian here was my very good neighbor when he came to serve as a youth corper in the North," Danladi explained. "He led me to Christ and thatโs the greatest gift I ever received. All his bills are on me."
The landlord scoffed. "Wellโฆ God saved you today. I was ready to disgrace you. But truly, God really saved you."He turned and walked out the other soldier followed.
Lian turned to Danladi, overwhelmed. "Thank you for coming through."
"No," Danladi said, smiling. "Thank you for bringing Jesus to me."
"How are you?" he asked.
"Iโm fine," Lian replied.
Danladi smiled again. "I rememberโฆ Youโre an architect, right?"
"Yes, I am," Lian nodded.
"Then God must have orchestrated this moment. I have a big contract for you."
Lian smiled, tears streaming down his face.
