Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, producer, writer, and visual artist known for his elastic facial expressions, high-energy physical comedy, and impressive range from outrageous slapstick to deeply dramatic performances. Born James Eugene Carrey on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, he faced early hardships when his family struggled financially after his father lost his job. As a teenager, Carrey worked factory and janitorial jobs while nurturing his passion for comedy. Moving to Los Angeles at age 19, he honed a distinctive stand-up act packed with impressions and rubber-faced antics. His ability to blend manic humor with genuine vulnerability made him a global superstar, earning two Golden Globe Awards and a massive box-office legacy.
