Support for Chris Brown
When Krishna and I were conceptualizing HUM Magazine in early 2012, we, along with Art Director Saqib Rana, oft brainstormed about what our first cover and feature story would be. It had to be captivating, irresistible enough for the probable reader to reach out and pick up a copy.
At an Asia Society Texas event, we met Divya and Chris Brown, a charismatic and elegant young couple. Chris was the Chief Deputy Controller of the City of Houston, and Divya, an attorney. When we launched HUM in July 2012, Divya and Chris Brown graced our inaugural cover. Their photograph, selected from a cornucopia of stunning photos taken on their wedding day (by photographer Joe Cogliandro), showed the couple, glorious in their Indian bridal finery. To date, it is one the catchiest, classiest covers we’ve ever presented.
We support Chris Brown in his bid for City Controller of Houston. His brilliance is well documented; his talent and wisdom make him the best man for the job. He holds an MBA in Finance, has extensive experience in the private sector as a former investment banker, and has had eleven years of service with the City of Houston. Chris has deep roots in this city as a fourth generation Houstonian. He and Divya are community conscious; Chris serves on the boards of Prevent Blindness of Houston, the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity, and Asia Society.
Please join us in helping Chris Brown succeed through campaign contributions, votes, and by spreading the word. Early voting is underway. Please visit http://www.chrisbrownforhouston.com for more information.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kalyani Giri

Father’s Day brings up a messy tangle of emotions for me. I’m not a father. I am a mother. I have four wonderful children. Some emotions I feel on Father’s Day include gratitude, sadness, regret, awe, empathy, and hope.
