Rite Aid, the U.S. pharmacy chain that operated more than 2,000 stores nationwide as recently as 2023, announced Friday it has officially shuttered all of its locations after years of financial struggle.

“All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support,” the company said on its website, which continues to allow customers to request prescription and immunization records.

Despite more than six decades in the pharmacy industry, Rite Aid has been facing financial challenges for years. The company most recently filed for bankruptcy protection in May. At the time, Rite Aid operated 1,250 locations nationwide — a significant drop from its roughly 2,000 stores in 2023.

Rite Aid previously filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023, which allowed it to cut $2 billion in debt and close hundreds of stores.

But the pharmacy chain continued to carry $2.5 billion in debt when it emerged from bankruptcy as a private company in 2024.

The pharmacy chain at one point had more than 4,900 stores.

Rite Aid did not immediately reply to NBC News’ request for comment.

The humble soybean is the latest flashpoint in the Trump administration’s campaign to reshape global trade.

Used in everything from animal feed to fuel, soybeans regularly rank among the most valuable U.S. agricultural exports, towering over higher-profile crops like corn and cotton.

More than $30 billion worth of American soybean products were exported in fiscal year 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

For American soybean farmers, their top overseas market has long been China, which bought around a third of the export crop — approximately $12 billion worth of American soybean products — in the last calendar year, USDA data shows.

But not anymore.

As President Donald Trump’s trade war leaves U.S.-China relations somewhere between frosty and openly hostile, America’s soybean farmers appear to be an early casualty.

An embargo in all but name

So far, China has not purchased any U.S. soybeans during this year’s main harvest period, with sales falling to zero in May.

This has pushed many American farmers reliant on soybeans nearly to the breaking point.

It has also complicated the Trump administration’s plans to provide billions in foreign economic aid to Argentina.

Buenos Aires recently sold more than 2.5 million metric tons of soybeans to Beijing, after briefly suspending its export tax on the soy products.

U.S. officials blame China for the looming crisis facing American soybean producers.

“It’s unfortunate the Chinese leadership has decided to use the American farmers, soybean farmers in particular, as a hostage or pawn in the trade negotiations,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday on CNBC.

Farmers view the situation differently, however. They want Trump to reach a trade deal with China that ends the unofficial embargo on soybeans. But instead, what they see is the White House preparing to bail out one of their chief rivals for the Chinese export market.

“The frustration is overwhelming,” American Soybean Association President Caleb Ragland said in a recent statement.

Meanwhile, China — the world’s biggest buyer of soybeans —indicated last week that it won’t resume U.S. purchases unless more Trump tariffs are lifted.

“As for soybean trade, the U.S. side should take proactive steps to remove relevant unreasonable tariffs, create conditions for expanding bilateral trade, and inject more stability and certainty into global economic development,” Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong told reporters in Beijing.

Emergency relief is coming

The Trump administration will announce new support for farmers, “especially the soybean farmers,” on Tuesday, Bessent said.

“We’re also going to be working with the Farm Credit Bureau to make sure that the farmers have what they need for the next planting season,” he added.

Bessent personally owns as much as $25 million worth of farmland in North Dakota that produces corn and soybeans, according to his recent financial disclosures.

He said soybeans would be a topic of discussion at the upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum later this month.

Trump is also aware of the impact his trade policies are having on American farmers, starting with soybean growers.

“The Soybean Farmers of our Country are being hurt because China is, for ‘negotiating’ reasons only, not buying,” the president posted Wednesday on Truth Social.

“We’ve made so much money on Tariffs, that we are going to take a small portion of that money, and help our Farmers,” Trump added.

The question is whether this aid will come soon enough to save this year’s massive harvest of soybeans.

At the center of the firestorm is Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who warned this week that “this moment of uncertainty in the farm economy is real.” Speaking on Fox Business Network, she emphasized that Trump has long supported U.S. farmers.

“President Trump and Secretary Rollins are always in touch about the needs of our farmers, who played a crucial role in the President’s November victory,” the White House said in a statement Thursday. “He has made clear his intention to use tariff revenue to help our agricultural sector, but no final decisions on the contours of this plan have been made.”

The Argentina factor

The current U.S.-China stalemate over soybean exports is also complicating another American foreign policy conundrum: what to do about Argentina’s faltering economy.

As U.S. soybean exports to China screech to a halt, Argentina’s farmers jumped at the opportunity to sell China their own soybeans.

From their perspective, a potential U.S. economic aid package has nothing to do with their soybean exports, and everything to do with the personal and political alliance between Trump and libertarian President Javier Milei.

Milei was the first foreign leader to visit Trump after his 2024 election victory, and he has become a familiar face at U.S. political events attended by the president’s MAGA supporters.

At a Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington, D.C. in February, Milei gifted then-Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk a red chainsaw.

Musk then waved it around onstage, calling it “the chainsaw for bureaucracy.”

Eight months later, Milei’s popularity with voters has plunged, raising doubts about the future of his market-friendly economic reforms and strict austerity measures.

Local elections in early September dealt a blow to Milei’s party, triggering massive turmoil in Argentina’s stock and currency markets.

A few weeks after the market plunge, Bessent announced on social media that the U.S. was prepared to deploy billions of dollars to support the South American country.

A presidential delegation from Buenos Aires is expected to visit the White House next week to finalize the U.S. foreign aid deal.

This has infuriated the soybean farmers.

“U.S. soybean prices are falling, harvest is underway, and farmers read headlines not about securing a trade agreement with China, but that the U.S. government is extending $20 billion in economic support to Argentina while that country drops its soybean export taxes to sell 20 shiploads of Argentine soybeans to China in just two days,” Ragland said.

Meanwhile, Milei has also secured a currency swap line for Argentina from China, a situation that gives pause to some in Washington.

In response, Milei has said Argentina will maintain its mutually beneficial trade and economic relationship with China.

Tensions inside the Trump administration over China, Argentina and the soybean farmers broke into the open last week.

While attending the U.N. General Assembly, Bessent received a text message from a contact labeled “BR.”

“We bailed out Argentina yesterday
and in return, the Argentine’s removed their export tariff on grains, reducing their price, and sold a bunch of soybeans to China at a time when we would normally be selling to China,” read the message, widely presumed to come from Rollins.

“Soy prices are dropping further because of it. This gives China more leverage on us,” the message concluded.

Spokespeople for Bessent and Rollins did not respond to questions about the text message exchange.

If you had just $100 to put to work in today’s market, where would it go?

For “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” author Robert Kiyosaki, the choice is obvious.

“If I had $100 what would I invest in? I would buy more silver coins,” he declared in a recent post on X. (1)

Silver has already attracted heavy investor interest, climbing nearly 45% over the past 12 months. But Kiyosaki believes that rally is just the beginning, predicting another 400% surge ahead.

“In September 2025 silver is about to explode. I predict your $100 in silver will be $500 in a year,” he said, adding that the metal “has been manipulated for years.”

That charge taps into a long-standing concern among precious metals investors. Over the past decade, major financial institutions such as JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank have faced investigations and fines for practices like “spoofing” in the precious metals market, where traders place and cancel large orders to distort prices. (2)

Critics also highlight the outsized role of “paper silver” — futures contracts and ETFs — compared with limited physical supply of the metal, arguing this imbalance keeps prices artificially suppressed.

Kiyosaki’s bottom line? “I am buying more tomorrow. Please do not miss silver’s explosion.”

Kiyosaki doubles down

Kiyosaki’s bullish stance on silver is hardly new — he’s been championing precious metals for decades.

In October 2023, he posted on X: “Gold will soon break through $2,100 and then take off. You will wish you had bought gold below $2,000. Next stop, gold $3,700
Silver from $23 to $68 an ounce.” (3)

His call on gold has already played out. Prices surged in 2024 and continued climbing through 2025, recently surpassing his $3,700 target. In May, Kiyosaki doubled down, forecasting: “Gold will go to $25,000.” (4)

Silver has also been on the move, recently topping $47 an ounce — edging closer to his earlier projection.

Kiyosaki’s faith in precious metals stems from his distrust of paper money, especially in an inflationary environment. Earlier this year, he warned of “hyperinflation” in the U.S. that could leave “millions, young and old” financially devastated. (4)

Gold and silver, by contrast, have long been viewed as safe-haven assets. Unlike fiat currencies, they can’t be printed at will by central banks and their value isn’t tied to any single country or economy. That scarcity, combined with their history as a store of value, is why investors often flock to the metals during periods of inflation, economic turmoil or geopolitical instability — pushing prices higher.

One way to invest in gold and silver that also provides significant tax advantages is to open a precious metals IRA with the help of Priority Gold.

Precious metals IRAs allow investors to hold physical gold, silver or other related assets within a retirement account, thereby combining the tax advantages of an IRA with the protective benefits of investing in gold and silver, making it an option for those looking to help shield their retirement funds against economic uncertainties.

When you make a qualifying purchase with Priority Gold, you can receive up to $10,000 in silver for free.

How Kiyosaki earns ‘steady cash flow’

Kiyosaki’s playbook goes beyond precious metals.

In a post on X earlier this year, he laid out steps individuals could take to brace for a recession — and pointed to the power of one income-generating asset. (5)

“I have always recommended people become entrepreneurs, at least a side hustle and not need job security. Then invest in income producing real estate, in a crash, which provides steady cash flow,” he said.

Real estate has long been a favored asset for income-focused investors. While stock markets can swing wildly on headlines, high-quality properties often continue to generate stable rental income.

It can also be a powerful hedge against inflation. When inflation rises, property values often increase as well, reflecting the higher costs of materials, labor and land. At the same time, rental income tends to go up, providing landlords with a revenue stream that adjusts with inflation.

Perhaps that’s why Kiyosaki once revealed he owns 15,000 houses — strictly for investment purposes.

Today, you don’t need to be as wealthy as Kiyosaki to get started in real estate investing. Crowdfunding platforms like Arrived offer an easier way to get exposure to this income-generating asset class.

Backed by world-class investors like Jeff Bezos, Arrived allows you to invest in shares of rental homes with as little as $100 — all without the hassle of mowing lawns, fixing leaky faucets or handling difficult tenants.

The process is simple: browse a curated selection of homes that have been vetted for their appreciation and income potential. Once you find a property you like, select the number of shares you’d like to purchase and then sit back as you start receiving any positive rental income distributions from your investment.

Another option is First National Realty Partners (FNRP), which allows accredited investors to diversify their portfolio through grocery-anchored commercial properties without taking on the responsibilities of being a landlord.

With a minimum investment of $50,000, investors can own a share of properties leased by national brands like Whole Foods, Kroger and Walmart, which provide essential goods to their communities. Thanks to Triple Net (NNN) leases, accredited investors are able to invest in these properties without worrying about tenant costs cutting into their potential returns.

Simply answer a few questions — including how much you would like to invest — to start browsing their full list of available properties.

Olsen, who joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe over a decade ago, spoke about making indie films between superhero movies

Elizabeth Olsen has unfinished business in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During a wide-ranging discussion on Saturday, Oct. 4, as part of the 2025 Hamptons International Film Festival’s “A Conversation With...” series, Olsen, 36, reflected on her career, expressing that she remains open to doing more superhero movies.

"It is something that I love, and it's something I always want to return to," she said inside Sag Harbor Cinema. "I think the thing that's been so special about the last five years is I've gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I'd love to do that I think fans also want to."

"I mean, these movies aren't for critics, these movies are for fans," Olsen added.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the actress recalled that she "felt very lucky and very scared" to join the franchise as Wanda Maximoff over a decade ago. Olsen went on to earn an Emmy nomination in the role, for her performance in the 2021 limited series WandaVision.

"It's really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it," she said, later going on to address superhero-movie fatigue: "Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial."

"There's nothing else really like it, and I don't know that I'll have [that] again unless it's for an ongoing show," said Olsen. "I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that."

Olsen looked back at her film breakout in 2011's Martha Marcy May Marlene and her evolution on the big and small screens since, as both a performer and producer. On a set, she wants "everybody to feel valued, and I want them to enjoy their job."

"For it to be a bad atmosphere is not cool," she said of the behind-the-scenes work. "When you're a producer, or even when you're not and you're the lead actor, you are allowed to set the tone. That is what I look forward to: I want people to get into arguments that are about how to make it better. I don't want people having arguments about not feeling respected."

She continued, "Creative arguments are delicious, and debates are great. I love debating people. But you can only really do that in a healthy way coming from a place of respect."

Charlie Hunnam, star of Monster: The Ed Gein Story, said the atmosphere on set was surprisingly “joyous”

The actor, 45, said that — despite the series’ dark subject matter — the cast and crew “felt really good” about the quality and integrity of their work on the project

The series, which premiered on Netflix on Oct. 3, tells the story of Ed Gein, one of America’s most infamous serial killers

While Netflix’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story may delve into some deeply dark territory, the atmosphere on set was surprisingly “joyous,” according to Charlie Hunnam, who plays the show’s titular character.

Hunnam spoke to PEOPLE exclusively during the show’s premiere at The Plaza Hotel in New York City on Sept. 30. During the conversation, the actor shared that he and his castmates found immense fulfillment in putting in the work each day and getting to perfect their “craft.”

“So there's the subject matter and then there's [the] actual process,” Hunnam, 45, explains. “And we all felt really good about the work we were doing. And so actually in terms of the experience we had of trying to make this show every day — just the actual putting our craft into effect — it was actually really joyous and light.”

He adds, “We were proud of ourselves and we were reaching for something. And not every day, but more often than not, managing to grab a hold of it. So it was really actually — I don't want to say a fun experience [...] but it was very satisfying and a beautiful experience.”

Hunnam also said that “finding the truth” of the character was “the whole process.”

— sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

“We were much more interested in why Ed did what he did, rather than exploring what he did. Everybody sort of knows what he did, and it's been chronicled in many films that he inspired and then direct adaptation to his life. And so that was clearly the mission right from the beginning,” he says.

Jamie McCarthy/Getty

Charlie Hunnam at the 'Monster: The Ed Gein Story' premiere in N.Y.C. on Sept. 30, 2025

Hunnam continues, “And we, I think, felt confident that if we remain true to that, of just trying to find the truth in reflecting back this bizarre, tiny, dark corner of the human condition that he manifested that [...] we were staying true to the traditions of storytelling — which is to try to help us understand ourselves because we’re all so bizarre, even the most normal of us.”

Gein's crimes shocked and horrified the nation upon his arrest in 1957. A police search of his Wisconsin farm revealed a woman’s decapitated body in his shed and the head of another woman in his bedroom. Investigators also discovered human remains and organs in the home, many of which were collected from corpses exhumed from local graves. He also had clothing, furniture, a lampshade and masks made of human skin.

He subsequently served as the partial inspiration for a number of serial killers in pop culture, including Norman Bates in Psycho, Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs and Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story, marks the third installment of the Ryan Murphy-created anthology series. The previous two seasons explored the lives and dark legacies of Jeffrey Dahmer and Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story is available to stream on Netflix.

New season, new hair! Stepping out with Kylie Jenner for the Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2026 show, Kim Kardashian debuted a striking new look—and we’re not referring to her gray trench.

As opposed to her typical long black locks, Kardashian showed up with a shaggy pixie cut, gelled back with longer pieces falling in swoops down her forehead, just slightly kissing her eyebrows. The style, a traditional symbol of nonconformity, saw a resurgence this year on the likes of Emma Stone and Emma Chamberlain—though it has been a staple of Kris Jenner for a decade. Kardashian, however, made it her own and leaned into the darker history of her new ‘do, complementing it with a thick ribbon tied around her neck.

Intentional or not, a cropped cut and choker were both popularized in the 1790s, when French counter-cultures reclaimed the styles associated with the Reign of Terror’s ex*****on of women. As people lost their heads, others started donning (mostly red) chokers in solidarity and cutting their hair to mirror the victims’ (the guillotine required hair be cut short for access to the neck).

Kardashian pared the dark look with an oversized light gray trench, designed with exaggerated lapels and a plunging, deep-V neck. Worn alone, as a dress rather than a coat, it was tied at the waist.

Next to her, Jenner went for an intricate two-piece set by Maison Margiela. What appeared to be a fuzzy, open-weave fabric turned out to be far more interesting, for with a closer look, it was revealed to be made entirely of paper. The white minidress, designed with delicate spaghetti straps, was layered over high-waisted tights of the same material for a full monochrome ensemble.
