I'll be honest...
I didn't know how this was going to go. I wasn't certain what she would do as challenges in reading kept arising. Book one was hard. She muddled through page after page until it became smoother and quicker. Until she would recognize base words in an instant and build on them. Until she had questions about definitions, but not context.
I thought, "ok she'll finish this by the end of the school year." To my surprise and amazement, she kept pushing herself. She finished book 2 today. A total of 200+ pages between the two books. Books that weren't meant for a kindergartener.
"I'm gonna start book 3 today. Then I might finish it before I finish kindergarten." That's 107 pages by the 21st of May. She read 1 chapter (not page) today.
Moral...don't underestimate her. Keep up with her personal pace. Let her be a kid the way SHE wants. She wants to try, then let her try. She wants to slow down, let her catch her breath. She is running her race, and I am her coach, NOT HER LEGS!
