Brooklyn-based designer Shana Luther creates handbags that display her love of classic yet modern styles, as well as her belief in American manufacturing: All Shana Luther Handbags are made locally. Shana got her start in 1999, when she graduated from Pratt Institute and began designing her own bags un

der the label SML Bags. A one-woman show, she was involved in all aspects of the creative process—from sketches to final sewing of her leather and fabric bags. By 2012, Shana longed to design bags that went beyond what she could produce on her own. Inspired, she re-launched the label as Shana Luther Handbags, continuing to showcase her signature designs. Soon after their debut, numerous fashion magazines and blogs, such as Teen Vogue and The Pursuit of Style, featured the label, with Shana Luther Handbags becoming a finalist in Martha Stewart’s American Made Awards in 2013. In addition to that, Shana was chosen by American Express to participate in their OPEN Rising Stars of Fashion competition at Magic Market Week in Las Vegas in August 2014. Loving where this basement living room design is headed!

The cool color of the seafoam velvet sofa sets the tone, so I layered in warm colors, soft textures, and modern accents to balance it out and make the space feel cozy and intentional- not at all like a basement.

Taking a moment this Friday afternoon to thank the universe for allowing me to do what I love every single day. I’m super grateful for the amazing clients (like these dream clients who color drenched their guest room pink as per my suggestion!) who trust me with their homes and my family who cheers me on through every project.

And with an eye on the future, I’m opening up the books for new clients for 2026! I can’t wait to see what’s next!

November mood board- leaning into the cozy season! Warm leathers, wooly textures, stripes (always for me!) and pattern mixing, anything that makes your space cozy and comfy.

Part 2 of the bedroom. Still love, love, loving this blue from 💙

Minimalist I am not. Plant lover I am! More the better I say- either small or large, I like to cover a room in greenery to add depth, color, texture and let’s not forget, some purified air!

Windows are dressed in linen curtains and woven wood shades- again, bring in that texture for interest.

This is so personal- everyone getting to see my bedroom!

Oh did anyone spot the viral lamp?

I knew I wanted blue in the bedroom. I had a swatch taped to the wall for upwards of a year so blue was definitely it. But when it came time to actually paint the room, I was glad I put actual paint on the walls themselves to really see how they would look.

To my surprise, my first pick leaned too dark and although the room gets plenty of north facing light, I didn’t want to be waking up in a cave. So I veered lighter.

This warm, soft blue does not read
“Little boy blue”. It reads sophisticated, serene, and truly gorgeous. Paired with all the wood tones in our room (and especially paired with piece that I cherish so much) it really is perfection.

Doors, trim, ceiling are all wrapped in this gorgeous blue. And I couldn’t be happier. If you’re wary of color drenching, don’t be. I promise you won’t regret drenching a room and you may even wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
