If we eliminated plastics from our lives, we'd save thousands of marine species from entanglement and plastic ingestion.
We need your help. Please read and let me explain. We started this page with the intention of providing new perspectives towards sustainability that aren't discussed often in mainstream media and in the current climate change movement. As many of you who have taken the time to read some of these captions will know, they can be quite long and informative (or at least we try to make them that way). The issue is, unlike other Eco pages that share the same generic Eco tips with some short caption about saving the environment, mine can take considerable thought and time to create.
If you feel like you have a creative mind and would like to contribute content to this community, the door is open. Whether that means powerful photography or insightful and inspirational words, any creative work is welcome (and credit will be given obviously!). For those who are new here, I try to focus on the power of personal responsibility, conscious consumerism, objective perspectives on complex social issues and social entrepreneurship, whilst linking them to a powerful image relating to the environment. Anything that aligns with these core values is welcomed and appreciated.
Feel free to send a message if your interested and I look forward to hopefully hearing from some of you soon! βοΈππ

βIβm very tiny and I am very emotional, and that is not something people usually associate with strength. I think weakness, in a way, can be also needed because we donβt have to be the loudest, we donβt have to take up the most amount of space, and we donβt have to earn the most money... We need to care about each other more.β Iβm on the cover of the special issue on the climate crisis.

Although free enterprise plays a significant role in this journey towards sustainability, it's super important to understand just how bad unregulated markets can be for the environment. Especially when those unregulated markets are saturated with terrible companies. Oil spills are one of the greatest examples of this.β
β
Companies like Shell, BP and ExxonMobil have contributed towards thousands of spills, many of which will continue to impact environments for decades to come. When you partner this with their unrelenting CO2 emissions, it's really incredible to see their marketing departments working overtime to try and greenwash their way towards sustainability. β
β
Greenwashing isn't just done by these big boys, it's done by many other companies in an attempt to appeal to the values of consumers (many of you who follow this page might fall into this category) and blind them to the damage that's going on behind the scenes. β
β
It's super important, therefore, to look at any business who claims to be sustainable with a very critical eye. Just because they say something is eco-friendly, doesn't mean it is. What about it is eco-friendly? They might be using plastic-free packaging, but the inks they are using could be toxic and equally as bad. So when Shell tells you about their renewable energy plans, take this with a grain of salt. β

For every one million tons of oil that are shipped, one ton is spilled into the waterways.
Speaking on New Scientistβs Big Interview podcast, teenage climate activist highlighted that we must still be tackling the current climate crisis, as well as the coronavirus pandemic.β β£

She said, βIf one virus can wipe out the entire economy in a matter of weeks and shut down societies, then that is a proof that our societies are not very resilient. It also shows that once we are in an emergency, we can act and we can change our behaviour quickly.ββ β£

Greta, who announced on her Instagram that she believes both her and her father have had COVID-19, warned her followers that many people, especially the younger generation, may not experience symptoms, or have mild cold-like symptoms. She went on to echo the recommendations by experts and said to .β β£
β£
Let's take heed of Greta's advice, and remember that the climate crisis should still be being discussed, and actions taken.β β£

The affect coal reefs have on our environment is unbelievable. They only cover 1% of earths surface but inhabit over 25% of all sea life within them. Unbelievable. -
They are rapidly getting bleached, harmed, and killed, from lots of human constructs: , , , and overall mistreatment.
-
Any sort of difference being made is appreciated from others and the planet π please, please share this to spread awareness on just how important reefs are β€οΈ

Beyond being absolutely gorgeous, green roofs like these make use of wasted space to keep our planet healthy! Living roofs not only offer an oasis for plants, insects and birds in urban areas where natural space is limited, they also pull harmful CO2 out of the air and cool urban areas. In addition to saving the planet, they can also save you money! Green roofs reduce your homeβs energy consumption by protecting from direct sunlight in the summer and providing extra insulation in the winter. More and more high-rises around the world are installing green roofs to bridge the gap between our cities and nature! π

Deforestation has ravaged about 24,000 square miles of the Amazon rainforestβthe equivalent of 8.4 million soccer fieldsβover the past decade, according to a report by the Royal Statistical Society, a British organization that analyzed data from the Brazilian government. Farmers, loggers and miners in recent years have taken advantage of relaxed controls on deforestation in Brazil and seized miles and miles of land for commercial development.

Over the past three decades, the oldest and thickest ice in the Arctic has declined by a stunning 95 percent, according to NOAA. The sea in the Arctic has changed dramatically, which impacts polar bears, walruses, and other Arctic creatures. If ice continues to melt, the planet will warm further as the dark ocean water absorbs large amounts of solar heating that used to be deflected by the bright white ice.
Attention Please!?
Americans are very good at consuming; so much so that in 2018 our greenhouse gas emissions spiked. The huge increase in emissions came at the same time we started to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement. The Trump admin DENIES there is a climate crisis and plans to fully withdraw from the agreement by November 2020. All because it is a "burden" on American workers... THEY HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!! π€¬ π€¬ π€¬ .

The International Monetary Fund just released a study and found that the answer for climate change may be living in our oceans. According to new research, a single great whale β great whales are a group of 13 different species of whales, including humpback whales and Blue whales β can sequester up to 33 tons of CO2 every year; by comparison, a single tree only sequesters 48 pounds of carbon annually. This means that great whales are essential to our ecosystem β and we should be doing whatever it takes to protect them. β β
The Environment Programme suggests applying the same method that countries have in place to protect forests to protect the oceans and whales living in it β such as incentives in the form of subsidies. But even with those put in place, researchers at the IMF estimate it would take more than 30 years to return whale populations to what they once were, in a time before whaling β and thatβs time we likely donβt have. As the researchers explained, βSociety and our own survival canβt afford to wait this long.ββ

What if our eyes were sensitive to the pollution around us in our everyday lives? The carbon pollution we dump into the air acts like a blanket and heats up the Earth. It will cost trillions to adapt to a changing climate and lives with be harmed. Letβs stop burning dirty muck for our energy and start collecting the sun and wind to power our civilization. We can create a better world together.
