It's Chicago Marathon week!!!

This Sunday, 55,000 runners take over 29 neighborhoods for the 48th edition — one of the fastest, flattest courses in the world.

My favorite part is behind the elites: 55,000 everyday runners, every one with a reason they showed up at that start line. Fifty-five thousand stories. That's what Behind the Bib has always been about.

Running Chicago on Sunday, or cheering from the curb (or the couch)? I'll be watching every mile with you!!!

Studio time this week.
Tuesday night, Jonathan Milkovich from Operation Warrior Fit sits down with me. He set out to run 700 miles across North Carolina for Operation Carolina, and his story of why “finish lines are lifelines” stopped me in my tracks. This one is earmarked for Veterans Day.
Then Thursday, Shanice from She Runs This run club is in the studio — and if you have not heard what that crew is building, you are in for a treat.

She ran the last two kilometers on a completely torn Achilles — and still won.

Tigst Assefa was flying toward the world record at the Berlin Marathon when the pain started at 31K. By 40K she was visibly limping. Her manager said the tendon was completely gone for the final two kilometers: "She was running with one leg, and the other one was just landing on the ground, but it wasn't pushing."

She crossed the line in 2:11:04 — the third-fastest women's marathon in history, 68 seconds off the world record. Then she collapsed. Surgery in Munich the next day, and she's out for around seven months.

This is what the bib doesn't show you. Every runner out there is carrying something. Some of them are carrying it on one good leg.
