When this documentary was produced, its main subject, Alice Herz-Sommer, was 109 years old. Alice was born in 1903 in Prague, where her parents were involved in the literary and musical milieu of the early twentieth century. She began playing the piano at an early age and went on to become a well-known concert pianist.

Her career was cut short when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia in 1939.

During his distinguished career, Fingarette spent 40 years as a philosophy teacher at UC Santa Barbara. He was a prolific contributor to published works in several philosophical venues. Fingarette serves as the sole narrator of his own musings.
