With the FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States weeks away and the closure of USAID last year, many have increasing concerns about the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Two American physicians have been transported from the DRC to European countries for medical treatment.

Screening checkpoints have been established at Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Learn more at the link below.

A proposed federal ban on tanning bed use in teens has been withdrawn by . Tanning bed use in individuals less than 20 years old increases the risk of melanoma by 47%. Melanoma is the deadliest cancer and the risk increases with each use. The American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend against tanning bed use. Some believe tanning beds are safer than tanning outdoors and help increase vitamin D levels. Learn more at the link below.

Let’s keep the conversation going.

For the past 10 years, has led the campaign to build awareness, activism, and community-building.

Black women are 2-3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. The increased Black maternal morbidity and mortality rates persist across education and income levels.

With more than 80% of maternal deaths considered preventable and more than 50% occurring after birth, it is important to know what resources are available and how to better prepare for pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Black pregnant women are nearly 3x more likely to die from maternal homicide than white pregnant women. Intimate partner violence is the leading cause. Fi****ms account for over 50% of pregnancy-associated deaths. Racism, lack of access to quality healthcare and economic instability are contributing factors.

We must work collectively to decrease our risks and continue to speak up. Identify a trusted healthcare professional and establish a relationship for routine screening and follow-up prior to conception. Familiarize yourself with the hospital birthing center and staff. Request a tour and share any concerns you have regarding being a black birthing person. Attend birthing classes and/or identify a doula.

Please do not isolate yourself or feel alone during this journey. Many are struggling and help is available. Speak with your doctor and elected officials today.

Share this with a Black woman who you love and support. Encourage her. Uplift her. Be her advocate 🫶🏾

was one for the storybooks 📚. I caught up with colleagues, sorority sisters 💕💚, a former chief resident and my mentor.
