President Trump wants Indiana legislators to redraw congressional maps mid-cycle to give Republicans a better chance at winning the 2026 midterms.

Normally, we only redistrict after a census, every ten years. The process is still highly political, and even if those maps are considered fair, they certainly aren’t competitive.

But at least there is a reason in those cases for a nonpartisan to believe the process is legitimate. That’s why Republicans should pay for a special census before they even consider redistricting now.
