🏔️ **WOULD YOU TRADE A $75K CORPORATE JOB FOR SEASONAL WORK IN YELLOWSTONE?**

This story caught my attention because it shows both sides of seasonal work.

Zoe De La Paz left a corporate job where she was making about **$75,000/year** and took a seasonal sewing job at Yellowstone.

She's now making:

💰 **$19.25/hour**
⏰ **40 hours/week**
🏠 **$96/month for employee housing**

The housing is dorm-style, with up to 3 people per room, communal bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and utilities included. Her work commute is a 15-minute shuttle ride.

Obviously, that's a HUGE change financially.

But here's what I think is interesting:

She didn't just move somewhere beautiful.

She changed the entire equation of her life.

Lower housing costs + a seasonal job + living somewhere she actually wanted to be.

That's one of the reasons seasonal work can be so interesting.

🏠 Cheap employee housing
🌲 More access to nature
💰 Less money spent on housing

And remember: cheap housing doesn't automatically make a seasonal job a good deal. Always look at the **pay, hours, housing arrangement, deductions, food, transportation, and length of the season** before accepting.

🚩 **SEASONAL JOB RED FLAG: “HOUSING AVAILABLE”**

You see:

💰 $20/hour
🏠 Housing available
📅 5-month season

Sounds promising.

But “housing available” doesn't tell you nearly enough.

Before accepting, I'd ask:

👉 **How much does the housing cost?**
👉 **How many people share the room?**
👉 **Is it a private room or a shared room?**
👉 **How far is it from work?**
👉 **Are utilities included?**
👉 **Is there a security deposit?**
👉 **Can I see photos before I accept the job?**

Because there is a BIG difference between:

🏠 “Housing available”

and

🏠 “$150/week, 4 people per room, 2 miles from work, utilities included.”

Get the details **before** you commit.

One of the biggest mistakes seasonal workers make:

They hear **“40 hours a week”** and assume they're guaranteed 40 hours.

Ask one more question:

**“Are those hours guaranteed in writing?”**

Because there's a BIG difference between:

❌ “You should get around 40 hours.”

and

✅ “Your employment agreement guarantees a minimum of 40 hours.”

Before accepting a seasonal job, find out:

• Is there a minimum number of hours?
• What happens during slow weeks?
• Can shifts be cut?
• Are overtime hours actually available?
• Is anything promised verbally but missing from the offer?

Don't build your seasonal budget around hours that aren't guaranteed.

🚩 **SEASONAL JOB RED FLAG: “Housing is available.” **

That phrase sounds reassuring.

But before you accept the job, ask:

🏠 Is housing guaranteed?
💰 How much does it cost?
👥 How many people share the room?
📍 How far is it from work?
🚌 Is transportation provided?
📅 What happens if you arrive before your housing is ready?

“Available” and “guaranteed” are NOT the same thing.

A seasonal job can look amazing on paper and feel completely different once you arrive.

You get an offer for a seasonal job that includes:

💰 $20/hour
🏠 Employee housing available
📅 5-month season
📍 Great location

Sounds pretty good.

But then you ask about the housing.

They tell you:

**“Housing details will be provided after you arrive.”**

Would you still accept the job?

**YES or NO — and why?** 👇

🏠 **SEASONAL JOB RED FLAG: “HOUSING PROVIDED”**

“Employee housing provided.”

Sounds great, right?

But there’s one question you absolutely need to ask:

👉 **“How much will be deducted from my paycheck for housing?”**

Because “housing provided” does NOT necessarily mean free housing.

You may have:
💰 Weekly or monthly rent
💡 Utility charges
🛏️ A housing deposit
🍽️ Meal-plan deductions
🚗 Transportation costs
👥 Extra charges for certain housing options

And sometimes those deductions can make a job that looked great on paper a lot less attractive.

Before accepting, ask:

**“Can you give me the full cost of housing and all related deductions in writing?”**

Don't just ask whether housing is provided.

Ask **what it will actually cost you.**

That number can make a BIG difference in what you actually take home at the end of the season.

⏰ **WHEN SHOULD YOU START LOOKING FOR A SEASONAL JOB?**

Don't wait until you're ready to leave.

If you want a **summer seasonal job**, start looking around **January–March**.

If you want a **winter seasonal job**, start looking around **July–September**.

Why start that early?

Because jobs with **housing provided** can fill well before the season begins—and the more popular locations can be especially competitive.

Starting early gives you time to compare:

🏠 Housing
💰 Pay
⏰ Hours
📅 Season dates
📋 Job details

You don't have to accept the first job you find.

**More time = more options.**

⏰ **DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO LOOK FOR SEASONAL WORK.**

One mistake I see seasonal workers make?

Waiting until they're ready to leave before starting the job search.

By then, some of the best seasonal jobs—especially jobs that include housing—may already be filled.

A better approach:

☀️ **Looking for a summer job?** Start researching in winter/early spring.

❄️ **Looking for a winter job?** Start researching in summer/early fall.

Starting early gives you more time to compare:

🏠 Housing
💰 Pay
⏰ Hours
📅 Season dates
📋 Job details

And don't accept an offer just because the location looks amazing.

**“$20/hour + housing provided!”**

Sounds pretty good.

But here's the question I would ask BEFORE accepting:

👉 **“How many hours per week do seasonal employees typically get?”**

Because $20/hour at 40 hours is very different from $20/hour at 18 hours.

And ask one more:

**“Are those hours guaranteed, or can they change week to week?”**

A high hourly wage doesn't help much if you don't get enough hours to cover your expenses.

Before accepting a seasonal job, look at the **whole deal**:

💰 Pay
⏰ Hours
🏠 Housing
🍽️ Food
🚗 Transportation
📅 Length of season

Don't get distracted by the number in the job ad.

**Do the math.**
