Evansville Police Department to increase impaired driving enforcement ahead of Labor Day

As summer winds down, Evansville Police Department is partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) to increase patrols and conduct sobriety checkpoints as part of the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national enforcement campaign, supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Through the Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program (CHIRP), an ICJI initiative that provides federal funding for local traffic safety enforcement, officers statewide will work overtime beginning August 19 through September 7, 2026, to identify and stop motorists under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“Our officers are seeing the consequences of impaired driving far too often,” said Sgt. Nick Winsett. “As we enter the final weeks of summer, we’re asking every driver to make responsible decisions. A sober ride isn’t just the safest option—it’s the choice that saves lives.”
Preliminary data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) shows that in 2025, nearly 23% of Indiana’s traffic fatalities involved alcohol, and more than 41% involved drug impairment.
“Impaired driving continues to be one of the most serious threats on our roadways, and we’re focused on reducing these tragedies through education and enforcement,” said Douglas Huntsinger, executive director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. “This year’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign reminds everyone that impaired driving is preventable. When you choose a sober ride, you’re helping protect your community and ensuring everyone makes it home safely.”

In Indiana, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, although drivers can be arrested at any BAC level if an officer believes they are impaired.
Have a Plan Whether You're Driving, Riding, or Hosting:
• Before drinking, plan a safe and sober ride home.
• Don’t let someone get behind the wheel if they've been drinking.
• If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home.
• If you see an impaired driver, call 911. Always wear your seat belt — it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign, administered by ICJI, is supported with federal traffic safety funds provided by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. More vaccines because of science, learning how to prevent disease. I’ll take vaccine over disease in my children and grandchildren, any day!

Children receive so many more vaccines these days. Why?

Habitat built my house, my son in law cut open the drywall to fix the washing machine’s clogged drain.

What he found was shocking. The wall was built on top of concrete blocks instead of the concrete foundation. They must have known this would cause a problem at some point and a worker had stuffed rags in between the crack between the concrete blocks and the concrete foundation, after it was built.

It had to be one of the carpenters because that wall had never been opened or exposed.

We have found all kinds of issues with my foundation in other areas, where the walls are separating because they were built on top of concrete blocks, outside of the concrete foundation.

In our state you have only ten years to fund and complain about an issue with your foundation. How are you to know in ten years there is a problem when it only began to show after 30 years of it settling and then separating from the concrete slab around the outside of each room.

It caused a crack to appear in various rooms over time. Through the crack we can see the ground. In some spots we can see the wood that is put down from foundation on top of concrete blocks, with the wall built outside the strip of wood, exposing inches of the earth between my concrete slab floor and my walls.

We now started to have cracks in my ceiling because as the walls settle and move it is shifting and causing cracks in the plaster put on the ceilings.

You know what we were told by habitat. At first we were told they would make it right, and fix or replace it, but then their attorneys got involved and said they are not responsible because we didn’t complain in first ten year period.

If I could find my old emails though, I do remember when I first had my carpet and flooring replaced the first time a few years after moving in, and I was told by that installer that my foundation wasn’t made right. He said that is why there was a hump about an inch in from edge of my wall because it was the wood attaching it to the concrete blocks and the wall is supposed to built inside that but instead was built outside it.

I wrote to habitat at that time and was told that everything was built correctly and passed inspection and that the man didn’t one what he was talking about. I believed them! I don’t know if finding those emails would help but I’m going to try.

When I worked with habitat as a partner to build my home, I was grateful and appreciated it so much for me, my husband, and three children.

Now, in my 60’s, and disabled, I have to deal with not having a safe and secure home, and definitely do not feel habitat is the kind of partner I believed them to be.

Just as people were thinking Covid isn’t a problem anymore. 50,000 people died from it last year. They also have learned it is reactivating old viruses in our body, causing autoimmune illnesses.

Severe COVID may awaken dormant viruses, leading to autoimmune disease, long COVID

The viruses usually stay dormant but can revive in response to stress, hormonal imbalances, sleep deprivation, surgery, or serious illness.

This is just one more assault by the Trump administration to those of us over 60.

The subsidies for Part D Medicare began to allow middle income citizens to get their medications without having to go bankrupt doing it.

The inflation reduction act that Biden passed used a subsidy program to help keep Medicare Part D premiums lower and more stable and reduce the risk of sharp premium increases as prescription drug changes under the Inflation Reduction Act took effect.

The demonstration was tied to implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, which Congress passed and former President Joe Biden signed into law in 2022.

That is the main reason he’s ending it, because a Democrat found a way to h**p people lower costs giving big insurance companies a little less profit.

After the subsidies end, insurance companies can again begin doubling the premiums we pay each year month for our part D, medication coverage under Medicare.

How is this the voice of America? It is the voice of Trump, instead. When they are not allowed to tell the truth, not allowed to give view of opposition, and can only give a report of what “Trump said”, not what really happened, not truth, just, “Trump said”!

That is definitely not the voice of America!

The Voice of America, a journalistic service created by the U.S. government to tell America’s story to the world, has offered news and talk programming since the Second World War. The organization’s identity has always been fraught, caught between the principles of independent reporting and its mission to combat misinformation and anti-American propaganda. Still, for decades, V.O.A. enjoyed bipartisan support in Washington, and was protected from government interference.

In March, 2025, Donald Trump issued an executive order: V.O.A. and its parent agency were to be slashed. Workers were told to shut down all operations, silencing the agency for the first time in 83 years. Many journalists were paid to stay home. The White House justified its action by accusing the agency of producing “radical propaganda,” citing a story about Hunter Biden’s laptop and a segment about transgender women from Honduras who sought asylum in the U.S., among other things.

Now, as the agency is beginning to rebuild, it’s clear that things aren’t the same. “Before, I had the freedom to contrast what Trump did with what critics thought of it,” a journalist from the V.O.A.’s Persian Service said. “Now I just say, ‘Trump said,’ ‘Trump said,’ ‘Trump said.’ ” Read Marc Fisher’s report on the peril facing the Voice of America: https://www.newyorker.com/news/annals-of-communications/how-donald-trump-silenced-the-voice-of-america?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dhfacebook&utm_content=app.dashsocial.com%2Fnewyorkermag%2Flibrary%2Fmedia%2F703471093

Here we go again:buying elected officials, paying for votes, talking people by the semi truck full, to barrage communities with his “volunteers” with their quotas that don’t get to sleep at night in a hotel he pays for unless they meet his quota, do not get paid unless get a quota of registered voters. He brought them in across state lines to go door to door lying for votes.
