Progress update on concrete patching and profile grinding along U.S. 50 in Finney County

A concrete patching and grinding project along U.S. 50 in Finney County is in progress, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. The project began in July and starts west of Holcomb, then extends east 8.4 miles to the end of the four-lane near 3rd Street.

Patching work is currently ongoing at both ends of the project. Grinding has started on the eastbound lanes on the west end of the project. Once all the patching work is complete, the pavement along both directions of the entire project will be ground to smooth the highway.

Minimal traffic delays are expected to continue as the work zone, marked with signs and cones, will have one-lane traffic with a reduced speed limit. These lane closures on U.S. 50 will remain in effect while work is ongoing, with a 12-foot road width restriction.

RA Knapp Construction Inc., of Lenexa, is the contractor on this $5.1 million project, which is expected to be completed by Spring 2026, weather permitting.

For more information on the project, contact Yazmin Moreno, Public Information Officer at 620-765-7080 or Craig Schlott P.E., District Construction and Materials Engineer, at 620-765-7096.

Resurfacing to begin on U.S. 56 in Ford County

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, a highway resurfacing project is expected to start the week of Sept. 29 along U.S. 56 starting 1400 feet east of the U.S. 56/ U.S. 283 intersection west for 250 feet.

U.S. 56 will be reduced to one lane in smaller sections as work takes place in the project area. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes as flaggers and a pilot car direct one-lane traffic through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. U.S. 56 will be open to normal traffic when construction is not taking place.

APAC-Kansas Inc., of Huchinson, is the contractor on this $770,590 project. Conditions permitting, it is expected to be completed by the beginning of November.

For more information on this project, contact David Ubel, Area Construction Manager, at 620-682-7938 or Yazmin Moreno, Southwest Public Information Officer, at 620-765-7080.

The map shows the approximate location of the project outlined in red.
