I've been trying to put my words together for a couple months now...❤️🩹
In 2021, I was admitted into a mental health facility after trying to end my life. Little did I know that going into one of these facilities would flip my entire world upside down & from that day on I would be treated like a joke by everyone in the medical system.
I was medication inured while I was in the hospital resulting in my paralysis, seizures, & chronic pain. All of this led to many years of medical neglect & gaslighting while they tried to convince me that everything I was going through was purely psychological. After YEARS of the doctors & nurses telling me I was faking my seizures & going into the ER room literally turning BLUE & PURPLE & foaming at the mouth. They would send me home saying to my parents "I don't know why you brought her here."
On Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 I was officially diagnosed with Epilepsy by an epileptologist who is specifically a neurologist specilizing in Epilepsy. I was sitting in the hospital in absolute confusion & shock because how was I just finding this out after 4 1/2 years? I had incredible support from a loved one staying with me as well as family over the phone who were able to help put questions together for this doctor before I went home & one of the questions we asked was "Do you believe this was progressive or missed?" & his response was " I believe it was missed." This has been a lot to process the last couple months but I finally had my symptoms validated. Up to 70% of people can become seizure-free with proper diagnosis & treatment & now that I finally have an answer & a treatment plan I am truly hoping this will help improve my quality of life.
I am pleased to say that after almost 3 months on the right medication, I am seeing a significant change in both my seizures & my other neurological symptoms. I'm not seizure-free as I still suffer with non-epileptic seizures, but I think we are FINALLY on the right track with this part of my health & now finally having found the right neurologist, I have even more findings regarding my medication paralysis that I'll share as I learn more myself.
