Early morning Dive with Conch Republic Divers doing a double dip on the the USS Spiegal Grove. HISTORY!!! The USS Spiegel Grove is a former U.S. Navy Landing Ship Dock that was intentionally sunk in 2002 off Key Largo, Florida to create an artificial reef. During its sinking, the ship accidentally rolled onto its side, but Hurricane Dennis in 2005 flipped it upright into its intended position. At about 510 feet long and 84 feet wide, it is one of the largest wrecks intentionally sunk for recreational diving in the world. The wreck sits in relatively deep water, with the highest points around 60–70 feet and the sand bottom near 130–135 feet. Because of its depth, size, and potential currents, it is considered an advanced-level dive site. Today, the massive structure is heavily encrusted with marine life and serves as a landmark wreck in the Florida Keys.

Appreciation post for my Father Ike who got me into diving at a young age and I finally got to return the favor and take him diving the last time he was in town to the USS Spiegal Grove. Always a great time diving with friends and family! ❤️
