RIP Cheryl! You will be missed!
With heavy hearts, we regret to share with the Jackson community the passing of Cheryl Norey on May 31.
Cheryl had been part of the MACI family for 31 years. She was an Assistant Manager in Corporate Services, and was the face of MACI in our community.
She was one of our first associates hired and, bilingual in English and Japanese, was instrumental in introducing MACI and our first leadership team to the community.
She was responsible for our donations program, internal communications such as the Compressor Newsletter and events like our 25th Anniversary Celebration, the Summer Picnic, Spring Thaw, Octoberfest and many others that touched all of us.
Cheryl's life was characterized by service to her community.
She was involved in community events, services, and programs that touched many lives. Cheryl served on several boards, among which was the United Way of Jackson County and for which she served as Campaign Co-chair in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, Cheryl was honored as the Person of Achievement by the Jackson Business and Professional Women's Club for her professional and personal contributions to the community. These activities were driven by her dedication to social justice, feminism, and equity.
Cheryl had a lively interest in the world around her and loved travel, art, and music. She planted trees and rescued cats and she encouraged those around her to do the same. She had a deep appreciation for nature and for cherishing each life, big and small.
Cheryl will be greatly missed by the Jackson Community and her MACI family.
A celebration of life will be held for Cheryl in September 2021.

We’ve been receiving some questions recently regarding our hours of operation, how many open beds we have available, who can receive the community meals we offer three times a day, etc. Please share this information so everyone in our community is aware of where to best steer people who may be in need of food and shelter.
The pandemic has been a challenge for all, especially those experiencing homelessness, but we have remained open through it all and will continue our 24/7 services to ensure all who need a warm place to stay have a roof over their head and three meals a day. We have had to lower our capacity slightly to ensure proper social distancing, but even still, we typically have many open beds available each night.
In addition to our emergency shelter service, we offer three prepared meals each day to anyone in the community. At 7:30 am, 12 pm and 5 pm all are welcome to have a free to-go meal, even if they are not residing at the shelter. So if you are downtown and someone on the street approaches you asking for food, you can let them know they will be able to get free breakfast, lunch and dinner just up the street at Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
We’re so grateful for the many individuals, churches and businesses who have allowed us to continue offering all of our services.
If you ever have questions or want to learn more about the work we are doing here at JIS, please reach out! You can call us directly at 517-789-8735 or email [email protected].
Today is the City of Jackson's 164th Birthday! The settlement that later became Jackson was founded in 1829, but Jackson officially became a City on Feb. 14, 1857. Happy Birthday!
