Armani fashion group appoints new board to guide company after designer's death 4506 ROME – Italy’s fashion house Armani said on Friday that it has appointed a new board whose role will be to guide the company at a time of transition following the death of its founder Giorgio Armani earlier this year. The new board consists of eight members selected by the Armani Foundation and the designer’s heirs, including former Armani top executive John Hooks and former Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri. The other board members are Chairman Leo Dell’Orco; CEO and managing director Giuseppe Marsocci; Armani’s niece Silvana and his nephew Andrea Camerana; Yoox founder Federico Marchetti and businessman Angelo Moratti.Following Armani’s death at 91 in September, the group appointed long-time manager Marsocci as the new CEO. Marsocci and the new board take the lead at a crucial time for the fashion empire, one of the most valuable and best-known companies in the country.Armani instructed his heirs to sell an initial 15% minority stake in his vast fashion business within 18 months after his death, with preference given to the eyewear giant Essilor-Luxottica, the French conglomerate LVMH or the cosmetics company L’Oreal.Dell’Orco said Friday the composition of the new board “represents the best guarantee for the continuation, enhancement, and modernization of the idea of beauty, the business model, and the ethical values developed by Mr. Armani over 50 years of history.”Copyright 2025 The Associated Press. Snow timeline: Window for heaviest snowfall this weekend in Metro Detroit 4505 WeatherHeaviest snowfall expected between 6 a.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. SundayThe snow projections for Southeast Michigan on Nov. 29-30, 2025. (WDIV)DETROIT – A significant winter storm is coming to Southeast Michigan this weekend, and the timeline for snow is becoming more clear.Local 4 issued a 4Warn Weather Alert for Saturday and Sunday morning because we’re expecting 4-6 inches of snowfall. We expect the snowfall to be heaviest between 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday. Snow will begin Saturday afternoon and could continue into Sunday morning, but that window is expected to produce the majority of the snow. This isn’t lake-effect snow. It’s a classic winter storm with a closed area of low pressure. If you have errands to run, it would be best to take care of them on Black Friday or Saturday morning. Once the snow starts, road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly.Drivers will have to deal with slick and dangerous conditions once it starts actively snowing. That’s why the 4Warn Weather Alert is in effect for Saturday and at least early Sunday morning.Lake-effect snow: Explaining what it is and how it really works in Metro DetroitCopyright 2025 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved. https://cavenewstimes.com/snow-timeline-window-for-heaviest-snowfall-this-weekend-in-metro-detroit/

(AP Photo/Robert F. Bukaty, File)SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Eels are the stuff of nightmares — slimy, snakelike creatures that lay millions of eggs before dying so their offspring can return home to rivers and streams. They've existed since the time of the dinosaurs, and some species are more poorly understood than those ancient animals.Yet they're also valuable seafood fish that are declining all over the world, leading to a new push for restrictions on trade to help stave off extinction.Freshwater eels are critically important for the worldwide sushi industry, and some species have declined by more than 90% since the 1980s. The eels have succumbed to a combination of river dams, hydroelectric turbines, pollution, habitat loss, climate change, illegal poaching and overfishing, according to scientists. Some environmental organizations have called for consumers to boycott eel at sushi restaurants. The loss of eels motivated the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES, to consider new restrictions to protect the wriggling fish. The members of CITES, an international treaty, met in Uzbekistan this week to determine if the new rules on trade are needed. Member nations voted against the new protections on Thursday.Conservation groups said the protections were long overdue, but not everyone was on board. Some fishing groups, seafood industry members and regulatory agencies in the U.S., China and Japan — all countries where eel is economically important — have spoken out against restricting the trade. The push for more restrictions is the work of “an international body dominated by volunteer scientists and unelected bureaucrats," said Mitchell Feigenbaum, one of North America's largest eel dealers and an advocate for the industry. But several conservation groups countered that the protections were needed.“This measure is vital to strengthen trade monitoring, aid fisheries management, and ensure the species’ long-term survival," said Susan Lieberman, vice president of international policy for Wildlife Conservation Society. Why are eels so valuable? The eels in question are the eels of the anguilla genus, which spend their lives in freshwater but migrate to the ocean to spawn. They are distinct from the familiar, grinning moray eels, which are popular in aquariums and are mostly marine fish, and the electric eels, which live in South America.Anguilla eels, especially baby eels called elvers, are valuable because they are used as seed stock by Asian aquaculture companies that raise them to maturity for use as food. Freshwater eel is known as unagi in Japan, and it's a key ingredient in numerous sushi dishes. Eel is also culturally significant in Japan, where people have eaten the fish for thousands of years. The elvers have become more valuable in the U.S. over the last 15 years because of the steep decline of eels elsewhere in the world. While the population of American eels has fallen, the drop has not been as severe as Japanese and European eels. Attempts to list American eels under the Endangered Species Act in the U.S. have failed. Maine is the only U.S. state with a significant fishery for the elvers, and it is heavily regulated. Maine's baby eels were worth more than $1,200 per pound at the docks in 2024, and they were worth more than $2,000 per pound the year before that.New protections were on the tableCITES, which is one of the world's largest multinational wildlife agreements, extended protections to European eels in 2009. The organization considered adding more than a dozen more eel species, including the American and Japanese eels, to its list of protected species.Adding the eels to the list would mean exporters would need a permit to ship them. Before the permit could be granted, a scientific authority in the home country would have to determine that the export would not be detrimental to the species' survival and that the eels weren’t taken illegally under national wildlife laws. That is significant because poaching of eels is a major threat, and rare species are often illegally passed off as more common ones, CITES documents state.Tightening trade rules “will encourage species-specific trade monitoring and controls and close loopholes that allow illegal trade to persist,” the documents state.US, Japan pushed back at protectionsFishing groups are not the only organizations to resist expanding protections for eels, as regulatory groups in some countries have argued that national and regional laws are a better way to conserve eels.Japan and China have both told CITES that they don't support listing the eels. And in the U.S., the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, which regulates the American eel fishery, submitted testimony to CITES opposing the listing. The U.S.'s own management of eels is sufficient to protect the species, said Toni Kerns, fisheries policy director with the commission.“We don't feel that the proposal provides enough information on how the black market would be curbed,” Kerns said. “We are very concerned about how it would potentially restrict trade in the United States."A coalition of industry groups in China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan also submitted a request that the protection be rejected, saying CITES' assertion that international trade is causing eel populations to decline is “not supported by sufficient evidence.”Conservationists say the time to act is nowThe strong demand for eels is a reason to protect the trade with new rules, said Nastya Timoshyna, office director for Europe with TRAFFIC, a U.K.-based nonprofit that fights wildlife trafficking.Illegal shipping is not the only reason the eels are in decline, but working with industry to cut down illegal trade will give the fish a better chance at survival, Timoshyna said.Eels might not be universally beloved, but they're important in part because they're an indicator species that helps scientists understand the health of the ecosystem around them, Timoshyna said.“It's not about banning it or stopping fishing practices,” Timoshyna said. “It's about industry being responsible, and there is massive power in industry.”___Associated Press writer Michael Casey in Boston contributed to this report.Copyright 2025 The Associated Press. Ric Flair Says WWE Is Wasting Randy Orton’s Prime 4500 WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair didn’t hold back when it came to discussing Randy Orton’s current role in the company—and according to the Nature Boy, WWE isn’t doing enough with one of its most gifted stars. During a recent appearance on Double Coverage, Flair praised Orton’s skill, physique, and overall presence, going so far as to call him the best male worker in WWE right now. But while Flair made it clear he has nothing but respect for Orton’s work, he also believes the 14-time world champion isn’t being booked to his full potential. Flair compared the third-generation star to a modern-day Greek god, saying Orton has all the tools to be a leading man—yet WWE just isn’t pulling the trigger creatively. “Randy Orton, I mean, he’s third generation. Randy is the best male worker in the company right now. They don’t utilize him the way I would if I was Booker, but I’m not. So… he can still work his ass off. But you know, he’s making a lot of money. He’s doing good. He’s happy. And that’s all that matters.” Flair didn’t stop there. He made a point to acknowledge Orton’s dedication to staying in shape even without performance enhancers—something Flair sees as rare and impressive in today’s business. “Randy—one of my favorites. I think he’s underutilized. Oh, look at his body. I mean, God, he’s off the gas and still looks great. He’s an Adonis. His symmetry is unreal.” Even though Orton has returned from injury, Flair’s comments echo what many fans have felt for years—Randy Orton might still be capable of far more than he’s being asked to do. Whether WWE decides to push Orton back into a main event spotlight or not, Flair’s words remind everyone that legends see something special in “The Viper” that still hasn’t been fully tapped. Physician assistant helps save a life - VA News 4491 VA medical providers team up to provide CPR When a patient collapsed and became unresponsive in the lobby of the Tomball VA Outpatient Clinic in Texas in April, a page went out for help. Physician assistant Eric Lopez and nurse Tiffany Massenburg were the first to respond. Life restored through teamwork Physician assistant Eric Lopez and licensed vocational nurse Tiffany Massenburg stand side by side at the Tomball VA Outpatient Clinic in Texas. Lopez and Massenburg immediately began CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED). After two rounds of CPR and two shocks, the patient regained a heartbeat. Emergency medical services transported her safely to a local hospital, where she recovered. Days later, the patient emailed the clinic to thank the team for saving her life. She later returned for a visit with Lopez, sharing her gratitude again: “Even though I was experiencing some difficult times in my life and career, I am grateful to still be here with my loved ones.” At VA, PAs play a vital role in ensuring Veterans have access to timely, patient-centered care. They see their own panels of patients, manage acute needs and support nearly every clinical specialty—from primary care and mental health to surgical subspecialties. Lopez serves as a “gap provider,” covering sick call and filling in when other providers are unavailable. “It’s important that our Veterans always have access to care, no matter the circumstances,” he explained. “The last thing you want is for a Veteran to face delays in care because of staffing or office hours.” A call to service For Lopez, serving Veterans is more than a profession—it’s a mission. Before joining VA, he worked in correctional health care, responding to “man down codes” that often required CPR. Many of the individuals he treated were homeless Veterans, an experience that deepened his respect for their resilience and sacrifices. “I chose VA because I encountered so many Veterans in correctional health who deserved better access to care,” Lopez said. “Here, I can serve them directly.” Today, Lopez finds meaning not only in his clinical role but also in the opportunities VA provides for his family. “I transferred from the Las Vegas VA system because we wanted the school districts here in Tomball,” he said. “I enjoy and will continue to work for VA for the rest of my career. It’s an honor.” Lopez insists that Massenburg deserves equal credit for saving the patient’s life. Their partnership underscores the teamwork and dedication of VA’s clinical staff, where every role contributes to Veteran care. Solar Panels Are Actually Saving Lives 4484 dee karen/Shutterstock

The benefits of generating power from solar panels in regards to being climate-friendly are known, but it turns out solar panels offer widespread benefits even beyond that. A study examined years' worth of data regarding solar panel usage and its impact, ultimately finding that this technology saved nearly 600 people from premature deaths due to air pollution during the time period of interest.
Though that is the most important data, that wasn't all that was found. Solar panels also avoided 178 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, replaced 305 terawatt-hours of fossil fuel power, and resulted in $28 billion in climate and health benefits.
This study was published in One Earth under the title "Imported solar photovoltaics contributed to health and climate benefits in the United States" in October 2025. Solar panels have often been considered the technology of the future, with California even using them in an ambitious new energy experiment. Now, this study proves that the positive outcomes of these panels go well beyond just being good for the climate and actually result in tangible benefits to the community and economy.

The research into solar panels

Mariana Serdynska/Shutterstock

The research team analyzed data from between 2014 and 2022, focusing on community health, air quality levels, the climate, and economic impact. They found that solar panels prevented 595 premature deaths that would typically be caused by poor air quality that stems from fossil fuels. When looking at 2020 in particular , the research team found that the monetary benefits were worth about half the cost of the solar panels themselves.
Solar panels also reduced the amount of fossil fuel and carbon dioxide emissions, which has a positive impact on climate change. This is important because carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere are 50% higher now than they were prior to the Industrial Revolution and continue to rise, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In fact, it's been millions of years since Earth's atmosphere had this much CO2, and it has resulted in rising sea levels, worsening weather patterns, and more.
The research team went a step further in evaluating the impact of solar panels on adjoining states, not just the states within the U.S. that imported the panels. There was a spread in the benefits, meaning that the entire region benefitted from the cleaner air because of the way air travels across the country. In the same way air pollution from wildfire smoke or power plants can move across state and country lines, so can cleaner air.

The impact this research can have

ultramansk/Shutterstock

Research like this can encourage more businesses and homeowners to purchase solar panels to generate the electricity they need. Even aside from that, the knowledge that it will result in cost savings over time and can potentially prevent an early death is a big motivator, despite how the upfront cost can be daunting. If you are thinking about getting solar panels for your home, it's good to understand how they work, how they'll save you money, and what government incentives you might get to take advantage of.
But regarding the larger and more wide-reaching implications, the research team also wanted to emphasize in the publication that global cooperation for solar panels is a good thing, as it benefits us all. The publication further mentioned that even in this time of worrying about geopolitics and tariffs, a healthy global supply chain for solar energy is something that should be sought after. This type of research can also be used by federal agencies and environmentalist groups to guide decisions regarding energy dependence or how to most effectively invest funds.
In all, this research shows a clear benefit on multiple levels for solar power. Since many of us are simply at the mercy of the environment around us when it comes to the air quality that we breathe, it is encouraging to know that research like this could protect our health in the future.

Ethan Hawke's Most Overlooked Movie Is One Of The Best Time Travel Stories Ever 4482 Stage 6 Films

If scientists are to be believed — and they probably should be — time travel is really finicky, particularly when it comes to going backwards in time. That's one thing most Hollywood movies get wrong when tackling time travel stories. For example, a causal loop or the bootstrap paradox — theoretical or not — is not generally factored into how time travel plots work. The term was originally coined by science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein who, coincidentally, is the author of the original book "All You Zombies," which is what "Predestination" is based on — the movie of focus here.
A bootstrap occurs when an object, snippet of information, or person is sent back in time and is infinitely trapped in a cause-effect loop, because it no longer has a point of origin or start. "The Terminator's" Skynet is an excellent example of this. The company and technology would never have been invented without the T-800 cybernetic organism parts captured in the past that were originally sent there to stop John Connor. It's an infinite loop.
As for how it relates to "Predestination," one of Ethan Hawke's most overlooked movies, the plot of the film deals with a bootstrap paradox where an intersex male born female goes back in time and impregnates his pre-gender female self. If that sounds confusing, it is a little, but the way it plays out, the main character is stuck in a strange causal loop and it makes for one of the most interesting time travel films you'll see. The film stars Ethan Hawke, of course, and Sarah Snook. Don't write it off because of that obtuse and simple description — there's a lot more going on under the surface in "Predestination," and it's a wild ride.

Why is Predestination overlooked?

It's difficult to say exactly why "Predestination" isn't more widely known, but it's likely because it was an independent Australian film released in 2014. There has been a spate of older, overlooked movies seeing a resurgence through modern streaming like Jake Gyllenhaal's "Ambulance" on Netflix, or the Michael Douglas and Brittany Murphy-led "Don't Say a Word," also on Netflix.
"Predestination" premiered globally at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March 2014. It saw a general release in early 2015 in the United States, and has a score of 84% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 75% from users, which is actually quite positive overall. Reviewers note that while the plot "isn't mind bending," it's still "a pace you can follow and is really enjoyable."
The plot actually centers around an agent traveling through time to find a terrorist named the Fizzle Bomber. In the timeline, the bomber is renowned for several high-profile bombings carried out over the course of years. The mission is to find the bomber, identify them, and stop them before another attack can be carried out. Obviously, the plot diverges a little to weave in the causal loop aspects. When it finally becomes clear what's happening, the implications are almost as unsettling as those discovered in "Leave the World Behind." Almost. Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook are both brilliant in this one, Hawke almost as encapsulating as his role in "Moon Knight." If anything, it's worth a watch to see if you can follow the time paradox playing out here.
