PS School Board Special Meeting
A special meeting of the Jackson Public Schools Board will be held this Thursday at 6 PM at 522 Wildwood Ave, Jackson, MI.
At issue: Derek Dobies, Vice President of the School Board, is facing serious allegations of unethical behavior and conflict of interest. According to the district’s attorney, Dobies secretly inserted language into the new superintendent’s contract that benefits his employer, the Michigan AFL-CIO, and then voted on it — which is a violation of both Board policy and state law.
Dobies was required to disclose this conflict and abstain from discussion and voting — but he didn’t.
As a result, there may be a motion to remove Dobies as Vice President of the board and possibly censure him.
