TODAY’S REFLECTION
Herod’s assertion, “John I beheaded…” betrays his sense of guilt and fear. Jesus’ arrival on the scene makes Herod suspect and fear that the one he had beheaded has come back to life to haunt him. He is weighed down by his own guilt and consequently lacks peace and joy in life. He seeks to see Jesus only to rule out the possibility that it is john. We are governed by our decisions and actions. Our good decisions and actions will follow us all through life, bringing us peace and joy. Our bad decisions and action will haunt us all through life, taking away our peace and joy.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Jesus gave his apostles “the power and authority “over all demons and to cure diseases”. And he sent them out “to preach the kingdom of God and to heal”. These two mandates define the role of an apostle. He has to be aware of the presence of evil forces and fight and defeat them. He has to pray over and cure diseases and preach the arrival of the kingdom of God. An apostle can do this only if he trusts in the power and authority of God who calls, empowers and sends him out. Relying on one’s own power and authority and preaching one’s own message would lead to rejection and failure. However, the one who called and sent him is in command.

BLESSING FOR THE NEW WEEK
Lord God, it is with a heart full of joy and appreciation that we welcome this day and this new week. Thank you for making us see the light of the day. May all glory be to your name.

We will go to work and business, our children will go to school and some of us will travel. We ask you to take care of us and protect us from all evil. Shower your blessings upon us so that this day and the entire week shall be fruitful for us all.

Increase our faith in you at all times like the centurion O God so that we will depend totally on you and you will see us through our challenges. May the miracle that happened to the Centurion be our lot in this new week. Amen.

I wish you the very best of this new week my beloved friend. Go out today and believe that you will succeed. Put in your best, be kind to people and you will by joyful at the end of the day.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
The purpose of lighting a lamp is to dispel darkness and brighten up the area. This is possible if the lighted lamp is kept on a lamp stand. Light exposes everything around it. Jesus tells us: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life” (John 8:12). Jesus is the light that brightens up our lives and leads us to the light of life, that is, eternal life. St Padre Pio experienced the light of Christ profoundly in his life and radiated that light to others through his life of holiness. Each of us is called to be a bearer of the light of Christ so that “those who enter may see the light”.
