TGIF Disco bunnies!
Tonight’s Episode 44 of Messy Lil Mixtapes on WRFA 107.9 FM from 10pm-12am is inspired by some of my favorite interviews and reviews for DJ Mag and Resident Advisor circa 2000-2015, so it’s heavy on the nostalgia from one of the most productive eras in my 25 years as a magazine writer, during which I had the privilege of chatting with almost anyone I liked, a sentimental milestone for a little brown boy from Echo Park.

The show kicks off at 10PM EST with the mixtape “Want” built around the monster track of the same name from Bromance Records “Shadow Work” EP by one of my favorite techno masters, Louisahhh, inspired by Jungian shadow theory. Her dad liked my review so much that he texted her about it and she posted the text on social media. It still makes me smile just thinking about that. Winning family members over isn’t the objective, but I am not mad it happened.
At 11pm we have the mixtape “Stormy Memories” and it’s my spin on Ladies Night, featuring some of my favorite women producers, songwriters, and DJs I had the pleasure of interviewing for DJ Mag. I’m referring specifically to Nicole Moudaber + Skunk Anansie’s Skin, Jlin, and the one and only Ellen Allien, including a mini-set within this set of 3 of my favorite Allien tracks.
