Beginning Wednesday, June 24, the City of Jasper Wastewater Department will temporarily close the 13th Street and Leopold Street intersection for approximately two days to complete utility work.

Once the intersection reopens, Leopold Street will be closed during daytime hours only for approximately two weeks. The road will reopen to traffic each evening.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and follow all posted signage. The City appreciates the public's patience as these improvements are completed.

The Jasper Street Department, in partnership with contractor Seal Master, will begin its annual Asphalt Pavement Preservation Project, also known as "Liquid Road," on Tuesday, June 23, weather permitting.

The pavement preservation treatment is similar to a seal coat but is thicker, more durable, and designed to last longer. Residents on affected streets will receive a door hanger notification the day before work begins.

City officials remind residents that all vehicles must be removed from garages, driveways, and streets before 7 a.m. on the scheduled day of application. Once work begins, vehicles will not be allowed back onto the street until barricades are removed and the roadway is reopened.

Motorists and pedestrians will be prohibited from using treated streets until the material has completely dried, a process expected to take approximately two days depending on weather conditions. Streets will remain closed during that time.

The following streets are scheduled for treatment, though not necessarily in this order:

West dead end of West 28th Street (west of Howard Drive)
Kunkels Avenue (off Schuetter Road)
Leslie Drive (Reyling Drive to 36th Avenue)
Schnell Lane
Eisenhower Avenue (Justin Street to Brames Road)
Holy Family Drive (3rd Avenue to Church Avenue)
Giesler Road (Church Avenue to dead end)
Gregory Lane (Kluemper Road to Hannah Street)
Logan Court
Martha Drive (Carlisle Street to 15th Street)
Linne Drive (Carlisle Street to 15th Street)
Brownstone Court
Clay Street (6th Street to 10th Street)
1st Street (off Clay Street)
6th and Mill Street intersection

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and follow all posted restrictions to avoid delays and ensure the success of the preservation project.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will host a public open house next month for a proposed sidewalk and accessibility improvement project along State Road 56 in Ireland.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (EST) and will be held at Saint Mary Church, 2829 North 500 West, Jasper, Indiana 47546.

According to INDOT, the open house will focus on planned construction work that includes new sidewalk installation, upgraded crosswalks, and ADA-compliant curb improvements along the State Road 56 corridor in Ireland.

The event will use an open-house format, allowing residents to stop in at any time during the two-hour window to review project details, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to INDOT representatives. There will be no formal presentation.

Officials say the public is encouraged to attend and share input as the project moves through the planning phase.
