Larimer County health officials are reminding residents to take precautions outdoors after tularemia, also known as “rabbit fever,” was detected in a dead rabbit near Berthoud.

While the confirmed case was not in Johnstown, Berthoud is nearby and the county says tularemia is naturally present in Larimer County, meaning residents in surrounding communities should use caution when mowing, gardening, walking pets, or spending time outdoors.

The county says residents should avoid handling sick or dead wildlife, keep children and pets away from rabbits and rodents, use insect repellent, check for ticks, and wear gloves or a mask when doing yard work in areas where dead animals may have been present.

Weld County is adding two additional stop signs and rumble strips at Weld County Road 34 and Weld County Road 17, turning the intersection into a four-way stop.

County officials say the changes are intended to improve safety and reduce broadside crashes at the intersection, which sees more than 5,600 vehicles each day.

Johnstown residents — who is your preferred internet provider?

For years, many residents relied heavily on TDS for high-speed internet. When outages happened, one of the biggest frustrations was the lack of another comparable high-speed option in some areas of town.

Since Comcast/Xfinity became available in Johnstown in 2024, many residents have had another provider to consider.

Johnstown Republic is gathering local feedback.

Please vote in our website poll:

Then comment below with your experience.

We are especially interested in:

Reliability
Outages

Whether you switched providers
Whether internet service has improved since Comcast/Xfinity became available

The poll also includes other provider options, including Quantum Fiber, CenturyLink, Rise Broadband, Vistabeam, T-Mobile Home Internet, Verizon 5G Home Internet, Starlink, and Other.

Johnstown Republic is not affiliated with TDS, Comcast, Xfinity, or any internet provider. This is an informal community feedback poll.
