All these thoughtful, encouraging tips for new female hunters “prioritize comfort,” “focus on the ecosystem,” “master the wind before the weapon.”
How sweet and supportive.
Meanwhile, the average new guy shows up to the woods like he’s Rambo on day one: oversized camo that doesn’t fit, smelling like coffee and diesel exhaust, stomping around like he owns the forest, and loudly wondering why “the deer just aren’t moving this year.”
Maybe we need a companion post for the boys: “Bless his heart, here’s how to bring a new male hunter into the fold without him immediately scaring off every living creature within a half-mile radius.”
Start in the off-season so he can learn the land instead of charging in with zero scouting. Prioritize gear that actually fits his body instead of whatever made him feel the most tactical at the store. Teach him about scent control and thermals before he starts daydreaming about mounting a trophy on the wall. And for the love of all that is holy, connect him with patient mentors who won’t mind explaining basic woods etiquette more than once. (Check out Hunt Michigan Collaborative )
When he finally masters the wind before the weapon, the mystery of the woods might actually open up… instead of him just crashing through it and complaining that hunting is “too slow” these days.
The deer (and the rest of us) would really appreciate it, fellas.
